Who are your favorite artists that bore you?

Will Oldham

stuff that bores me I don't listen to. will oldham bores me so I don't buy any of his albums (i did once).

some artists I only listen to if I am in the right state of mind - such as Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens, etc.

Umm, I can't think of one applicable to this thread, but I can do the opposite.

Artists that bore other people but are among my favorites: Lambchop, Spokane, A Northern Chorus

I'm on a roll - 2 posts in one night. I'm going to need another blue pill.

I get a perverse sense of pleasure listening to the Eagles DTS Hotel California on DVD. The sound is absolutely amazing. I don't think I have anything that makes my speakers sound nearly as good. Too bad they can't recreate the magic with some bands that don't suck.

I listen to a lot of boring stuff when I go to sleep. I have a ton of it on my harddrive. Max Richter comes to mind.

That Dire Straits guy. His...second to last album, I think? Kinda boring, but every once in a blue moon, I'm in the mood for it.

Do you mean stuff that you find boring, or stuff that you could see how others would find boring?

Cos i cant see why you would listen to something you find boring.

I downloaded a bunch of music that I was recommended. I was going through and listening to it and I remember hearing a lot of good stuff about Will Oldham.

But I found it so boring that I chose to make a thread about it. I don't know why.

Have you ever been in a store that had listening stations, and you sorta had time to listen, but sorta had other things to do, and you listened, but kept getting impatient, and said to yourself, I might like these if I had more time (and patience) to listen to them?

It's like that.

So what makes him a "favorite artist?"

Some "boring" stuff is considered "boring" because people use it for background music when it's not supposed to be.

Like Lambchop's Is A Woman. It's so mellow and the vocal phrasings are so clipped and sometimes hard to decipher that it's been called "nice background music." But when you have the lyric sheet in front of you and have headphones on, it's anything but that.
