and I didn't like either of them.

Should I just pack my bags and leave right now?

The Arcade Fire are better than both of them.

No, stay! That Wolf Parade album bites. We listened to it yesterday. I can't stand that Dan's voice. Grrrating.

I loved 'Funeral' when it first came out but they get absurd amounts of radio play this side of the border and, when you have 14 year old sisters blaring it, you get sick of it quit.

I didn't hate anything particular about Wolf Parade, I just thought it sounded really generic, kind of like a million other bands and there was nothing special to it.

OK, fine. I just really don't like his voice, and there's nothing redeeming about the record otherwise.

Wolf Parade = Good, Wrens = Good, Arcade Fire = Good

Notice Good does not = Great

End of lecture

Wrens:
-6
-I've Made Enough Friends
-Propane
-This Boy Is Exhausted
-Faster Gun

Wolf Parade:
-You Are A Runner And I Am My Father's Son
-We Built Another World
-It's A Curse

"Shine A Light" was the only one I really liked.

Oh, so not entire records? Interesting. I usually wait until I've given the Arcade Fires of our world a few full-length listens before throwing them under the bus. ;-)

If I hear good things about a band or album, I usually download 3 or 4 tracks off it. I can almost always tell from those whether or not I'll like it.

If I find all three boring, there's a pretty slim chance that these happen to be the worst tracks on the record and the rest will blow me away.

I endorse the following statement:

Does anyone talk about the Wrens anymore? Flash in the pan. The album was fair at best.

I tried listening to the Wrens a while ago and I don't understand the appeal.

I liked the first track on the Wolf Parade cd. The album isn't bad but like others have said it sounded like the generic indie music being put out as of late.

And for some reason Audioscrobbler didn't log all of my songs I listened to the week I listened to that album, but i'm pretty glad because that kept them low on my chart.
I'm kind of mad it didn't log other stuff I listened to though. I guess you win some, you lose some, though.

I don't think anyone *here* is interested in talking about the Wrens much more because what's the point? Some of us really like them, a lot of folks just don't get the love/hate, and some folks really definitely hate them because of "they hype." The discussion seems to have run its inevitable course.

But they're still selling out rooms across the country, Charles is doing a solo tour thingy, blah blah blah.

And it mighta been the Constantines' version.

I'd love to hear from doomachik. She loves these guys, but I don't know if I've ever heard why.

Ish- who is that in your avatar? Looks kind of like my brother when he was a kid.

I still maintain that the Wrens must be experienced live. I did not love The Meadowlands, but they are still the best live show I've ever seen. Actually, I guess they're the top three live shows I've seen.

It's Conor Oberst as a kid, as far as I know. I'm not sure. FT set me up with that ish.

Because they killed live. The first time I heard it, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it didn't thrill me to death. After seeing them live, the album changed qualitatively for me. Maybe I was catching more subtle nuances than I had before, I'm not sure. I'll say the same for the Arcade Fire. Very exciting live, lending the songs a greater emotional depth afterwards.

For me, anyway. For others I'm sure it's still overhyped/overrated/getanewdescriptionplease blah blah blah...

It is. I had seen them a few times live, some time ago albeit, before hearing them on record. They bothered me in the same way live.

And fair enough that you enjoy them.

I'm glad we worked this out.

Peace.

I didn't mind Wolf Parade when I saw them open for Modest Mouse last year, but 'not minding' and 'liking' are entirely different.

Don't they sound a little too much like Modest Mouse? At least vocally?

Isaac produced the album, but I don't think they sound like them. I don't know. I'm hard-pressed to name a specific band they sound like. I just think they sound like Generic Indie Rock Group.
