So here's the fruits of my labors this week after digging through the cd bins at the thrift and pawn shops. All in excellent condition for $3 each:

It was a good day, yay me.

The Chemical Reaction cd is a compilation of UK big beat tunes from such luminaries as Leftfield, Chemical Brothers, Aphrodite, Sabres of Paradise. St. Etienne, etc.

plus a cd single for New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" and Garbage's import cd single for "Special" for a buck each.

The sad news is that I also went to this hole in the wall Korean pawn shop and the guy behind the counter had some really obscure and weird cd's lined up on the shelves but wouldn't sell any of them to me. He said that his boss had already sold the whole lot to Tower Records (my nemesis) for like a $1 each. Is Tower Records going to start selling used cd's? Does anyone know?

I offered to pay him more but he flat out refused. A shame really because I saw some rare breakdance cd's there that I had never seen before. Sucks.

Yeah, I know, but I hate when my posts are buried underneath everyone else's...it makes it hard to find.

Meh.

Actually I just wanted to see what people thought about my selections and if anyone knew about my Tower Records question but yes, you're absolutely right.

This is me:

Some of them always have -- it's like renting videos -- some do, some don't.

Slowdive choice == one of my most favouritest albums ever
Orb choice == one of my favouritest album covers ever

The Tower here has been selling used for about a year. The selection is meh, and they can't keep them alphabetized. They pay squat and mark 'em way up. Plus side is you can sometimes find a recent opened release for a couple bucks less, and you can find obscure gems once in a great while.

That Michael Penn stinks. Compare it to his first release. I don't think he's been able to top that one.

Tower has sold used discs here for several years at least, and a handful of DVDs. The inventory is sometimes slow to roll over, but there are good things to be found. They also use this frustrating colored tag system that determines how much of a discount you get during sales, usually 75%, 50% or 25%. Thing is, the colors are never the same each week, so all the beige tags that were 75% are now normal price, and the blue tags that were 25% come up as 50% off and so on.

I don't think they do anymore, but when I was in high school, Tower rented movies, with a bigass wall of them for 99 cents a pop.

That's funny, because I listen to everything of his BUT the first one. I haven't even bothered to rip if for the Ipod yet, I don't think - that's how rarely I listen to it, I don't even know if it's in Itunes!

Last year I went to pick up Autolux and ended up finding it in the used bin at Tower for $3 bucks less. One of the rare occasions where I went to the store specifically to buy a CD and found it in the used bin.
