okay, so most bands these days start of strong before selling out or turning shiiiit. So what are some bands that have grown successively better with each release?

I think I like One Mississippi and Lapalco better than his new one. I love all three, though, so it doesn't really matter.

although i love all their albums, this is definitely not true. a storm in heaven was their best.

I agree with Enigma and, to some extent, Radiohead (if you mean the change after the first album).

The others, not so much. Gabriel has been consistent his whole solo career. Nine Inch Nails have never topped the first one. Skinny Puppy were best in the late 80's to early 90's. James -- their final albums were kind of bland. Massive Attack haven't stuck to one sound, so it depends what one's looking for. The Verve never were bad, but never amazing, either.

i agree with the Verve, though the popular view is that Northern Soul is the best

A pretty good argument could be made for this if you take Hail to the Thief out of the equation.

Hail to the Thief is the reason I put Radiohead on the list.

faith no more (i don't think their later albums were necessarily better than angel dust, but they were pretty good and i enjoyed them)

Animal Collective.

Not that I've decided that Feels is better than Sung Tongs yet. I don't really think that decision matters. They're still progressing positively.

Bjork anyone? Everything from Debut to Vespertine has been a progression in my mind.
