Anybody a fan of these?

It's my understanding that they're pretty hard to find, and according to AMG they've only been released on CD as bootlegs. Anyway, it took a while, but I finally snagged some 192 kbps mp3s from 5l5k, and I thought I'd share.

Kraftwerk (1971)

Much more organic and jammy than Kraftwerk would later be. Sounds like an actual band playing, and it features Klaus Dinger from Neu! on drums. It has a much more space rock and typical Krautrock feel than any of their later stuff. The opening track "Ruckzuck" should sound familiar - I believe it was the theme song from PBS's "Newton's Apple" show.

Kraftwerk 2 (1972)

Still retaining some of the space rock elements of the first record, this one is just the duo of Hütter and Schneider and gives clearer hints to where Kraftwerk would go.

The song 'KlingKlang' off of 2 is probably my favorite Kraftwerk song. It's just an unbelieveable piece for the time it was made. Definitely forward thinking and far better than 'Autobahn,' at least to me.

Also notable is the tune 'Tonebirge,' which I believe is off of 1.

Have you ever tracked down a copy of 'Organisation'? That's the more jazzier, noisier band that is Kraftwerk before Kraftwerk. While not the greatest album or anything, it's just an interesting document of where they were at.

I'd heard of Tone Float, but I've never heard it.

I'll have to look for it.

Yeah, I love Kraftwerk. Early Kraftwerk (those two, Tone Float, side two of Autobahn), later Kraftwerk (side one of Autobahn...Computer World)...pretty much all of it.

I do have legal (I thought -- bought 'em at Tower in the import section) versions of them, btw. You also need to get Ralf Und Florian.

This is epitomical Krautrock, BTW.

Davey in 3, 2, 1...

I've seen either the first or second one at Tower, and it was at least $30. There are some much cheaper copies on half.com, though, and I'll probably be ordering one soon.

I also d/l'ed Ralf and Florian when I got these, but I haven't listened to it yet.

Yeah, that sounds about right -- I probably paid less at the time (sale or something), but...whatever...

Dude, listen to it already! It's...well, as good, anyway...

Thanks for the YSI. I have the second one, but not the first. I look forward to hearing it.

I had both of these dubbed onto tape nearly a quarter century ago. The cassettes are long since muffled and nearly unlistenable. Thanks for the links.

These guys may have sex with their computers, but it produces cool tracks.

This sounds more like the cuddling of machines than computer sex. I need to spend an intimate listen on them both, but #1 yesterday and #2 today have yielded prolonged verging-orgasms. I really really like/prefer #2.
