much darker than the debut album, and great stories and songs.

I agree, and I don't think The Blind Leading the Naked is too far off, but not quite the equal of the first two.

I listen to 3 the most of any Femmes albums, but Hallowed Ground is the ballsiest and creepiest. Great album.

Interesting Femmes note: the three original members used to party at the home of one of my father's friends, and Lord only knows how much blow went up their noses at said house.
