I'm really not an insensitive bastard. Most of the time anyways.

Tens of thousands of people die in car accidents here in the U.S. every year. Generally speaking, when you hear about someone you don't know dying in one the response is usually a shrug or maybe a, "that's too bad"...right?

Now, if you hear about a struggling musician that died in a car accident, especially one you've never heard of before in your life, is it any more tragic or worthy of your attention?

I'm just wondering aloud what your thoughts are about this.

Seriously.

Yeah, it matters more, 'cause it's more pathetic.

any death matters. i sympathize for everyone in any situation involving death of a loved one because i know how much it would kill me if something like that happened to someone i care about.

We're all struggling in one way or another. Death is inevitable and often untimely. Musicians, or any artists for that matter, are not more deserving of attention sympathy than any other one of us. If the art touched you in some way your sense of loss may be tangible.

It's interesting how loss and tragedy, suffered by others, can affect us. I am no longer surprised by my sense of grief at hearing about an accident involving people I don't know.

i don't have any grief about it but i pay slightly more attention when it's a musician because i know that, at the bare minimum, i had at least one thing in common with them, our shared love of thai hookers. and music! i meant MUSIC!
