Back in my day, if you were born in America, you were an American..now..mabye, not so much...HOW LONG O LORD HOW LONG? These people are OBVIOUSLY INSANE, and our side has so little to offer they just keep getting elected

Oh, didn't notice that.

Yeah, that's awful, but I can't imagine it'll happen.

Yeah, cos after this it would be hard to imagine having to sign a loyalty to be a "citizen," or maybe just run of the mill criminals ending up in placing like Gitmoafter their "citizenship" has been revoked.

Also, thos "strict constructionist" judges SHOULD have a problem with stunts like this.

It's probably the same dicks that want me to kiss their ass just to get in to your fucking country (I guess I'll take my tourist money elsewhere then...) but I don't actually see the problem here.

If someone is an illegal immigrant it's only right that any offspring born while they are illegally within the borders of the US should have no automatic right to citizenship.

That would seem to frustrate the 14th Amendment, but I wouldn't say they're obviously insane. Would it necessarily be such a bad idea to limit birth-citizenship to kids whose parent(s) are in the country legally?

It seems kind of fucked to have law that says you can't enter this country "illegally" -- but if you do sneak by the fences, border patrol, minutemen, and INS, your kid born here is a legit citizen. And he can later turn around and sponsor his parents' citizenship.

So where would the line be drawn? What if the illegal came into the country in 1933 and the kid is now 65 years old and mayor of a town in Wyoming or something?

If you were born in America, you're American, period.*

*Does not apply to Mexicans, Jews and Vulcans.

I'm almost daily stunned by how our country has changed since 9/11, and primarily the change has to do with what we consider to be "given" freedoms. I see how security concerns factor into these kinds of decisions, but I also think it shines light on the gulf between what moderates like myself think of as "American" and what far right conservatives thinks of as such.

Some things I think of as crucial to American identity, seems some others are willing to water down or sacrifice for the sake of being "safe" (whatever that means). It's like there's need to take away freedoms in order to preserve freedom. Which is damned contrary to what I thought of as "American."

You have to wonder what the supporters of this type of measure would think if they deported some little blonde girl from some european person who is living here on an expired visa. I hope the latino vote sends them a message in 2006 about this.

But, if you're the baby-father, then the child born of the conjugal relation between you and a wet-back would be an American, as you are (oh, and the baby would be a wet-back, sure... not deportable though).

Keep on humping them beaners, then, lil' shaver.
