I gave a first listen today. It will break no ground, but it will get repeat listens at work.

I will listen to this tonight and give my opinion either tonight or tomorrow. I doubt it will be too favorable, but we'll see.

I don't see how anyone can like their other albums and not like this, it's really not that far away from the other stuff. It's pretty good on first listen. 'Chromakey Dreamcoat' is the goodness.

My first impression is that this album is actually pretty good, but a little too simple for what Boards of Canada is capable of making. The acoustic-with-synths thing has been done countless times before by groups other than BoC, and some of the beats on the album are too simple (there's one real offender in the first half - "Satellite Anthem Icarus" maybe?). Still, the tracks I've heard more than one time (OSTRE and Chromakey Dreamcoat) sound amazing now, even though they didn't the first time through, so maybe the album is a grower. I'm not going to listen to it much more now, because I'll think I'm going to pick it up when it comes out next month.

I'm really having a craving to hear the new Boards of Canada album right now. I think that the simplicity is almost the key to the album. Those who expect another MHTRTC will inevitably be disappointed, but those who want some good "mood" music with the classic BoC synths should love it. I want to give it another good listen tonight, but then I'll put it away until October 18 or whenever it comes out.

Glad I found this.

What is a ".rar" file and how do I open it?

Download WinRAR. Even though it tells you it will expire in 40 days, it won't.

Cool. Did it already. Are you going to download this or still buy into your idea of people only liking BoC because it's "cool" too?

Thanks for posting that link up there, but I'm not really digging this too much. I think I like it less than Geogaddi which I find pretty boring.

MHTRTC, Twoism, and In a Beautiful Place Beautiful Place Out in the Country are all you'd ever need by these guys.

You know, it's funny. Every time I listen to Geogaddi, I find some magic missing. But when I'm in the store, and they're playing it, and I don't know what it is, I always ask -- what is this? And then I'm embarassed.

This one's a grower.

I do still believe that to some extent. I'm sure there are plenty of people who like this kind of thing, myself included, but what I meant was that there are SO many people who "love" BoC -- people that otherwise NEVER listen to any electronica -- because MHTRTC got a 10.0 on Pitchfork.

And read my comments in this thread for my thoughts on the album.

I like this quite a bit actually. It's a lot more subtle then MHTRTC

I agree. My first Orbital album and my favorite of the ones I've heard.

Have to agree with that. So calming and soothing.

Really? Then I guess my analogy was lost on you guys.

Here's what I think: it's great, but they've done greater.

I still need to spin it more than once, though, so take my opinion...well, the way you always take it. For what it's worth.

Well you're a little older than us so that's probably the difference. By the time I got around to listening to them (Orbital), they were pretty much over, so I could listen to their albums without any expectations. Whereas with BOC i've already heard MHTRTC, Geogaddi and their EPs so I have preconceived notions of the BOC sound.

Gave it a spin during dinner tonight, mellow enough to play to all, yet "cool" enough to keep the "edge-lovers' enthralled.
