I thought there was a salary cap, how the fuck did they get all these players? And why aren't they crushing the Nuggets?

5 point swing there. Martin was fouled on his shot, no call, ginobli gets a bad 3 point play call.

There's absolutely a salary cap. The Spurs have simply been very crafty about how they've spent their money since about 1997. Remember when they were suitors for Jason Kidd and Jermaine O'Neal and came away with...who?

Exactly.

San Antonio draft better than any other team. They took Parker with a late first round pick and Ginoooooobili towards the end of the second round. They also attract guys who prefer winning over money, guys who take paycuts for championships: Horry, Bowen, Barry, and now Finley.

The Spurs have one more than 1 championship. And it was less than 9 years ago.

It's a "soft cap" that incorporates the "Larry Bird Rule", so it's not like the NFL or anything.

actually, I haven't given the show a chance I've only seen him in commercials and on mtv briefly, so I guess I'm jumping to a conclusion that the guy sucks, I just don't like his comedic style I guess.

Guys like Finley and Van Exel are willing to take a lot less cash to play for a team they know can, and likely will, win a championship.

The Nuggets are good, and the Spurs are notoriously slow starters to begin with -- especially given the fact that they have several significant new players to incorporate into the rotation. I'll take the 11-point win, thankyouverymuchmarkclark.

Either them or the Celtics, yeah. The Lakers are probably the Dodgers to the Celtics' Yankees.

No, they're more like the St. Louis Cardinals. The Atlanta Braves of the NBA are the Seattle Supersonics. They are a perennial playoff power, yet have only won one title.

I thought the same thing before I watched the show paper. Funniest shit around, and Borat is funnier than Ali G. HIGHLY Recc'd.

Oh, and WHO THE FUCK STILL WATCHES THE NBA?!!!???

and why?

Yeah, SD I understand, and with your massive gambling habit, I can't wait for REdlands to be foreclosed on after all those ill advised "HAWKS WIN IT ALL" Bets ;)

The Spurs definitely have to three-peat at least once before becoming the new Yankees of the NBA. They haven't won much more than the Rockets or Pistons.
The Lakers are probably the most recent Yankees of the NBA and have won quite a few titles in different eras. The Boston Celtics are probably a more successful franchise than the Yankees overall, but haven't been that good since the late 80's.
The Bulls would have remained the Yankees of the NBA for at least another four years, if Jerry Krause and Phil Jackson's egos didn't conflict with each other.

The Yankees have won more than 1/4 of all World Series' ever played..actually 25 out of 102..I don't think you GET more succesful than that.

BUT, Mark Clark's analogy was to the buying of every player out there.

The Celtics and Lakers are actually tied with 14 title if I counted right, but the Lakers lead in all time win/loss percentage. Together they have won 28/59 titles if my math is correct again.
As for buying players, I usually think the team with the most superstars actually fails to win the title or really dominate. The Lakers had a ton of big names the last time they played Detroit, and it hindered them from winning. I'd say Phoenix, New York and Miami probably have more star power, the Spurs just use talented roll players to neutralize superstars.
