A couple that come to mind that haven't been mentionedyet:

"Call Me Al" - Paul Simon (don't know the bass player's name)
"Michelle" - The Beatles (Macca playing the most lyrical bass solo I can think of)

Nope. "The Real Me" beats it easily, the whole song's a solo. But I'm going to have to officially go with Jaco Pastorius' "Continuum" off The Birthday Concert. That and pretty much anything involving Geddy Lee.

You beat me to it. When I think Entwistle, I think "The Real Me". Gawd, that is such a great song for bass lovers.

The Brothers Johnson - Stomp
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Nobody Weird Like Me
Jaco Pastorius - Continuum
Jaco Pastorius - Protrait of Tracy
Queens of The Stone Age - No One Knows

These are all great solos, but the cool thing about bass is that a really great bassline in a song is almost like a solo... but that's for a different thread.

Yeah, that's what I think as well Philly. I mean the most amazing bass solo I've heard is off this Victor Wooten record where Victor and Oteil Burbridge are soloing over the top of each other---its sicker than sick.....but I enjoy a good musical bassline much more.

Stay in the pocket, friends.

First thing that came to mind as well.

Fact: The bass solo is only the first few notes, and in editing adding on the mirror image. Um, does that make sense?

Like this:

I just thought of another - Rob Wasserman's exquisite upright solo on Bruce Cockburn's "Pacing the Cage," from The Charity of Night. Probably the most emotional piece of bass-work I've ever heard. It's heartwrenching and gives me shivers every single time I hear it.
