so i'm tempted to buy the new nada surf, partly because i liked (not loved) their last one, and partly because i like the 2 songs off the new one i've heard -- "do it again" and "always love". however, i'm worried based on those songs and the reviews i've read that their new album's too "fluffy" for repeated happy listens. do i cause for concern or should i dive in?

it's half good, but not quite the level of "Let Go"
Blankest Year is the best song.

I was really disappointed in this one (I loved Let Go). Even when I liked the melody of a song (which wasn't often), the lyrics were often just too cheesy, i.e. "Always Love" or "To find someone you love, you gotta be someone you love." i hate to say it, but pick it up used, if at all.

I just don't get the love for this band. It's crappy lyrics over non-descript music.

I do happen to love the new Nada Surf. I recommend it pretty highly. I mean, it's not at all challenging, but if you're looking for a hook-filled pop/rock record, look no further.

I think their last album was 100% ear candy. This one is probably 80% but still worth the purchase. Good mood music.

I concur. I think it's a better start-to-finish album than Let Go, which simply had a few awesome individual tracks. I was very, very pleasantly surprised by The Weight is a Gift. It's the album Death Cab should have recorded, instead of the insipid Plans.

A friend of mine just gave me this the other day and I think it's really good. I never heard them before, but it sounds like I gotta get "Let Go"

I dig The Weight is a Gift, courtesy of Stacey. It's a great album to drive to.

Yep. And reason why I spread the love.

It is a decent album. I can listen to the whole thing without clawing my eyes out (unlike Feels, Rehearsing My Choir, and plenty of others that will end up on Best Of lists)

If I ever release a solo album, and get such high praise from the two billys, I will be giddy.
