A resounding meh besides the single and b-sides

It’s there worst album, but that doesn’t make it bad. They just don’t have any of that classic SFA sound on this one. There are, however, some truly beautiful songs on this album. The first time I heard this album was when London Underground was bombed and it moved me beyond belief.

This is their stoner album and they ride the vibe throughout it. They just forgot that you need hooks or something that makes you excited about a song. His solo album of this year is actually a better record for 2005. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good just not memorable so easy to pass over.

I hope this experiment is a one-album thing and they go back and write memorable hooks again. So even though people are comparing it to Elbow (wrongly), that record kicks its ass.

Todd obviously only reads his own threads.

No.
I saw the old one.
But it had been a while, and there hasn't been much chatter about it since then.

That is all.

i listened to it at work yesterday and echo many of the statements posted above, specifically that it's pretty mediocre aside from a few really beautiful songs. it definitely sounded, though, like they had a goal and wrote the whole album with one idea in mind. i've never had such a feeling from their other albums. that's not to say that they don't work as albums, but this one feels more like one piece than the others.

It's really good, but I don't know if I like it as much as the rest of their stuff. Whatever, "Frequency" is so beautiful and amazing and quite possibly their most accomplished song ever. I just wish they hadn't experimented with the multivocalist thing. Not to mention, "Psyclone!" is pretty much b-side quality. I guess it seems they had something in mind, but I think they made a few great songs and then rushed to fill the rest of the album with subpar material (Back on a Roll and Psyclone, mostly). They were on vacation, after all.

I honestly don't get the aforementioned Elbow comparison. The albums and bands couldn't sound any more different, even disregarding quality. Although I do like LK better than Elbow.

[edit] Oh, I'm seeing SFA in two days. I'm beyond excited.
