if the Arcade Fire did this Pitchfork'd be ready to eat the corn out of their shit.

http://pitchforkmedia.com/news/05-11/09.shtml

It's not that i even like Coldplay, it's just that the "O they're famous, we should be scornful" attitude of Pitchfork is what is wrong with the whole system. If you don't like them, and don't think your fanbase will either, don't fucken report the news. If Nickelback or some shit had news like this, they wouldn't report it, so what's the point in sharing this only to cut them down?

I know I'm aging, but Pitchfork writers sound painfully more and more like 17 year olds every day. Not the awesome 17 years olds, either.

Martin will ditch the falsetto on the next album, he'll sing in a lower register, the band will up their tempo and the backlash will subside. They're not idiots. I bet they're well aware of Coldplay-fatigue.

if Fix You was sung in non-falsetto it would almost be a good song.

We present Martin with a one way ticket to hell... and not back.

So, they understand what a one way ticket is, right?

I think it might be a veiled, oddly out of of place reference to the new Darkness cd title?

Well, musical merits aside, the whole thing does sound like one hell of an intense marketing scheme.

I don't know -- I kind of got a self-mocking tone out of the whole thing. Like this is how the news would travel, on, E.G., MyPlace. The only thing that would make it more obvious would be to put lots of "OMG"-s and "LOL"-s in.

Yeah, but the backlash was already in full effect back when Parachutes came out...which is another way of saying: it's OK to dislike Coldplay. I think the marketing scheme-driven "tour launch" is ripe for parody and the like - big bands simply get more visible opportunities to fall on their faces (or at least their backers/PR teams do!). If U2 or another slightly over-exposed, earnest act pitched their new tour with this kind of artificial hype generation, I'll bet it'd receive similar snickers from the same quarter of the music biz.

Also, I kinda liked the idea from the perspective of my 15-year old self. I can imagine being wicked psyched about the Cure doing this on Prodigy in 1992 or something. :)
