So I went after the Good Doctor Bill yesterday and it has become a bit of a spectacle. It has turned into a good read so I’m bringing it up. So Andrew wrote a review of Blink 182, and being a bit drunk at the time, I went after that review. If you are interested in what I’m talking about than go to Stylus Magazine and after reading the review go to the comments on the Blink 182 review and it’s from yesterday.

It’s kind of funny I know all this stuff but aware of indie music bulletin boards. The big two are ILM and Hipinion but really nothing holds a candle to ILM because you can write more than 8 words per post. Have even convinced Fastnbulbous to post on that board as well but is the most intimidating board on the net. They currently have the best thread I have ever read and is about John Peel’s favorite 140 albums of all time, read it as it may blow you away as it has done to me. Then you have your second tier boards like SOMA, Ateaseweb, Dissensus, and of course the mighty Obner. Have posted on all these at one time but now only post on the two that really mean anything to music related posts these days.

Anyways, just wanted to bring up that Blink thing because it has turned out to be a funny little thing that has happened as the net turns.

Stylus is a bit more Indie than they are pop. Just felt like they should have a bit more integrality in their reviews.

Not every post needs to be relevant, I just happen to have never seen so many comments concerning a review on Stylus before. Just wonder if being in my 30’s has made me jaded where I couldn’t understand why people would like that band. If you are under 25 and American then you have been exposed moreso than the rest of us. It was just fun to see how that thread has played out and wrote a useless post about it.

Really I was most impressed that I figured out who Andrew was, where he has no excuse for that review.

It's funny because Stylus took it down and is no longer on the front page. Only reason ILM was brought up is because I wanted to explain where I figured out the mystery of the Good Doctor Bill as he posts there, still not positive. Also just finished reading that John Peel album thread so it was fresh and went off about it. I'm really trying to not mention them but it keeps coming up. I post quite a bit and don't mention ILM as much as you think I do, it just seems like it at times.

Really...what makes Blink 182 any worse than just about any other pop punk band that jumped into the whole punk rock thing like 25 years or so too late? At least they have a few catchy songs and don't try to act like they're actually meaningful or "authentic" or anything. Gotta admit a soft spot for Green Day though. They had a bunch of great, catchy singles to go with their last album.

Oh yeah, and talk about out of the loop. I've never head of any of the boards you mention in your post.

Really, ILM isn't all that special. Its a decent board and I'm sure there are more people there that share your love for the Boo Radleys than you'll find on any other board. There are lots of posters who are very knowledgable about Post Punk and Pysch but really given how many reviewers post there I'm always surprised how little people seem to know about jazz, soul, funk, and world music. "I Love Music" seems to be a bit of a misnomer to me.

Oh, it's special all right, but Special Olympics special. It's the kind of board where you can learn that Question Mark and the Mysterians had a hit with "99 Teardrops".
