I went with a buddy last night to go see Bob Weir and Ratdog. The Dead have been exiled from my stereo for years until just recently. So when my friend offered a ticket I accepted, not having very high expectations for the show. I love going into a show with low expectations and getting my socks rocked off.

I like the Dead and went to 5 or 6 shows in the early 1990's. By then they were pretty washed up. I never bought in to the Garcia hype because Bobby was carrying the shows. Jerry was just a fat heroin addicted diabetic, who couldn't sing, and could hardly play. It was always up to Bobby to rock the joint.

In Ratdog Bob's the main man. He doesn't have to worry about upstaging some overhyped fat man. He's got a backing of decent musicians, who can sing harmonies and backing vocals on key. These guys are good.

Here are the set lists to the best of my recollection. I left around the end of the second set. It was a school night afterall.

1st Set

Truckin'
Take me to the River
Deal
I Need a Miracle Everyday
Tennessee Jed
Maggies Farm (Dylan)
She Belongs to Me (Dylan)
Feel Like A Stranger

2nd Set

Playin in the Band
Corrina
Tomorrow Never Ends (Beatles)
Playin in the Band
Uncle Johns Band................................. Monger had left the building

ah. nice setlist. :)

one of the best shows i've ever been to was a ratdog show back in '02. i raced off to this show 2 hours away right after work....i barely got there in time. miracled my extra ticket to someone and headed in. bobby blew me away.

bobby gets a lot of slack. but i think he's pretty awesome. (though, i have a great deal of love for jerry too) most of my favorite dead songs are bobby songs. but when bobby is bad. he's REALLY bad.

I completely agree with all of this.

The only time I ever saw Ratdog, they were on and I really enjoyed it....

i agree.
he has a Neil Diamond like love of restraint and SMACK YOU OVER THE HEAD.

i saw him live a few times with Rob Wasserman and had a great time.

One of my favorite albums is Weir's Heaven Help The Fool. Man.

Guess I'm probably in the minority on this one.

I read "my brush with hipness," and I was like, "you've experienced nothing of the kind."
