What bands do you know that are/were still releasing good, relevant albums, more than 15 years into their existance?

And this can go for solo artists too, I suppose (although if they came from a band, the solo career counts separately, methinks).

Personally, I think The Real New Fall LP is a great record. Damn solid all the way through.

Radiohead will qualify in 2 years.

I'm not a huge fan by any means but I got to admire U2 for putting what seem to be some consistently good stuff for over 20 years.

Around my neck of the woods, I think the Tragically Hip have also done this as well. Although some would definitely disagree. I think it's great they didn't start recycling Fully Completely year after year.

You know, I think Sonic Youth would qualify for this as well...

Yeah good question.

I'd say

Bob Dylan
Leonard Cohen
Al Green
The Saints
Solomon Burke
John Cale (I like Hobosapiens, but haven't heard the new one)
Bettye Lavette
Elvis Costello
Tom Waits
Gal Costa
Tom Ze
Lo Borges
Milton Nascimento
Salif Keita
Marianne Faithfull
Hoodoo Gurus

but I don't know that you'd consider all these "relevant"

Bruce Cockburn
Iron Maiden

Elvis Costello
The Tragicall Hip
King's X
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Rush
King Crimson
U2

And remember, "relevant" is relative. And, really, meaningless.

AHEM: New album rocks, and they will *ALWAYS* be relevant.

Definitely The Saints, especially with this year's release.

I'm giving the thumbs down, however to the Hoodoo Gurus, which really hurts, 'cuz I love 'em. However, they haven't done anything decent, IMHBSIO, since "Blue Cave".

You didn't like Mach Schau? I thought that was pretty strong. Although maybe they aren't the best example of longevity because there was a long period of crapola followed by a period of non-existence prior to that album.

Oh hell...
NICK CAVE just released the best album of his career last year! And how long has he been going?

Sonic Youth, definitely. Certainly not as relevant, but still.

Maybe the Flaming Lips depending on how the new stuff is. That song from the Wedding Crashers kinda sucked.

I would also say M. Gira as the creative force behind both the Swans and Angels of Light as well as a great producer and label head (he's given us Devendra Banhart and Akron/Family).

Waa? Hoodoo Gurus are still together and playing good music??

Last of their discs I heard was In Blue Cave, and it wasn't all that. Except for Mind The Spider, which may have made up for the rest of the album.

Rush. Hahahaha. And King's X is sooo fricking tired.

Good call on KC, though.
