Wow, what an INCREDIBLE year! Every single one of these records I listen to somewhat regularly and all of them are definitive classics. The only one that may seem like a strange choice to others is the Beefheart, but I think it's his best album and I encourage all to listen to it.

I had a hard time choosing myself, but I'm going with the Cars because the album is just perfect. Hell, most of these records are though.

The Cars - The Cars

Wire - Chairs Missing

The Rolling Stones - Some Girls

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food

Captain Beefheart - Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)

"You Know You're a Man" is at once straightforward and incredibly weird when it comes to love and gender, while other standouts include "Bat Chain Puller," a steady chugger that feels like a goofy death march, and the nervy freak of "Owed T'Alex." As for the Magic Band in general, keyboardist Eric Drew Feldman, guitarists Jeff Tepper and Richard Redus and drummer Robert Williams lay down the business with appropriately gone aplomb, as a listen to "Suction Prints" will demonstrate.

I omitted Heaven Tonight because I feel it's the weakest of the trilogy. Darkness is a good album, but not among Bruce's best in my opinion. Third/Sister Lovers is an oversight.

This one is tough as I know songs from these releases but haven't heard many of the albums in their entirety. The Jam got by default. VH or Devo would have been second.

I don't usually think about stuff in terms of years, so its hard to remember what else came out. Serious omission of the BRUUUUUUCE, btw, and that would move to 2nd. If you don't think it belongs in the Bruce pantheon, take a re-listen. A fuckingamazing, dark, beautiful rekkid.
