Back, and to the left. Back and to the left. Back, and to the left.

Woke up this morning to Imus and Russert having a chat about this.

Probably the most intriguing historical event of the 20th Century, in that it was 3 shots, and the whole world changed.

And, lest you forget, we are still feeling the effects of these events today. In politics, in the the way we see the world, almost everything.

And, Arlen Specter (R-PA) was the genius who came up with the Magic Bullet theory.

Texas is an outrage when your husband is dead
Texas is an outrage when they pick up his head
Texas is the reason that the President’s dead
You gotta suck, suck, Jackie suck

playing CVB's "Jack Ruby" right now. Damn fine tune.

http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3QEV ... YN736UEITY

Jack Ruby

I remember his hat tilted forward
His glasses are folded in his vest
And he seems like the kind of man who beats his horses
Or the dancers who work at a bar
We saw on the screen his face for a moment
No time to plead or even ask why
Jack Ruby appeared from out of nowhere
Then disappeared in broad daylight
'Cause he's a friend of that cloven-hoofed gangster the devil
He's been seen with the sheriff and the police
Drinking whiskey and water after hours, saying
"Let's do business, boys. The drinks are on me."
So draw the box along quickly
Avert your eyes with shame
Let us stand and speak of the weather
And pretend nothing ever happened on that day
Grant us the luxury, 'cause all our heroes are bastards
Grant us the luxury, 'cause all our heroes are thieves
Of the innocence of the afternoons
Now we think it's a virtue to simply survive
But it feels like this calm it's decaying
It's collapsing under its own weight
And I think its your friend the hangman coming
Choking back a laugh, a drunkard swaggering to your door
Now do you feel that cold, icy presence?
In the morning with coffee and with bread
Do you feel it in the movement of traffic
And days are terrible, simply forget

On a related noted, Ted Kennedy is a genetic marvel. Not ailed by the same horrific spinal injury as his presidential brother, nor the drip a la RFK, and capable to carry a semi-permanent BAC of 0.4 for twenty-plus years without dying (nor requiring a liver transplant).

can we indulge in a moment of shared vitriol over the frustrating fact that the Warren Commision's report is still the US government's official statement on JFK's assasination? Or do we not want to go there? I mean, come on. The Magic Bullet?! Basic physics debunk this ridiculous theory, yet it remains on the books as "fact", does it not?

Hey! If the Baby-boomers and Dem. diehards can believe that the Kennedy administration was some form of Camelot, and that JFK would have rapidly withdrawn all U.S. forces from Viet Nam - if that's real, then I don't see why Spector cannot be right as well.

Gerald Ford knows the truth.

And Big Pete, of course.

Can we at least expect an admittance of stolen white house office supplies from Jimmy Carter?

how come no one is doing anything about being lied to so much, so often, by their government? And not just about the standard, run-of-the-mill political stuff, either... we're not talking about massaging numbers or going back on a "no new taxes" promise here...

I guess it's hard to say what you would do until you are living in those conditions. But I often wonder why more of the general American populace isn't dangerously OUTRAGED at the degree of lies, secrecy, cover-ups, and scapegoating within their government, and at the human toll the fallout of some of the more severe underhanded action results in.

I mean, for starters, in regards to JFK's assasination, your government has been telling you for 42 years that black is white and up is down, in the face of common sense, science and truth. And it all seems to be served up with a "listen to us, we know what's best for you" patronizing smirk.

people have no incentive to do anything, because by and large these lies do not affect their personal pursuit of happiness, and they suspect that they might in fact facilitate it.

I'm not defending it but let's face it: Sometimes it's just easier to move on. Assasinations are part of life, covert ops is a part of life...etc.

Sometimes things get dirty.

sometimes just "moving on" sets precedent for history to repeat itself.

Also, aside from personal curiosity, does it really benefit you to know who really killed JFK. This is the Gerald Ford paralell: Ford helped orchestrate the Warren Commissionm descision and then as president pardoned Nixon (which arguably cost him the election in '76 though its a little more complicated) because he honestly felt that sometimes its better to just move on instead of peeling away at all of these ugly scabs.
