People are freaking out around here on the EC. What is it about this stuff that freaks people out. If you can't get out, sit in yr house and eat what you have. The kids, nor yourself are not going to suddenly get osteoporosis (sp?) if the milk is not restocked. Use a frickin' towel or a teeshirt if you run out of toilet paper, and for heaven's sake, please please please, don't try to move yr urban tank just because you have 4-wheel drive. They've already closed schools for tomorrow 'round here due to FLURRIES. Who's running these schools?

I remember living in Atlanta and people going nuts over snow... there'd be breaking news segments every 10 minutes, and it would always some clever moniker like "Snow Jam '95."

'95 was actually a pretty bad year for snow, at least where i grew up in pennsylvania. we had so many 2-hour delays and closings at school that they lengthened the days by an hour in the spring because we wouldn't have reached some minimum number of hours in school without it. and i remember having a week off and just reading SPIN, listening to cds, watching tv, and pretending like i lived in the antarctic to go visit friends who lived nearby. that was a fun week.

We got some yesterday but I slept through it all. I think we're supposed to get more tonight/tomorrow.

I think that was the year we ended up getting like 2 weeks off of school and I ended up staying at a friends' house and just having the most hilarious week ever. shoveling snow all day, drinking and sledding on abandoned streets all night. shit i bet I can trace my alcoholism directly back to that week. good times.

and Dana, "snow jam '95"? AWESOME.

When I was a kid, I rememeber school closing for 2-3 days simply because of maybe 1 foot of snow (1988 maybe?). P.G. County what what.

They let Anne Arundel County Schools out 2 hours early today. I saw the first flake at around 4 pm.

I remember 2 years ago when we had a really bad snowstorm and I had to work. I took all my mail out of the office, drove around for an hour and then went back and said I couldn't deliver anything.

Oh yeah. Since I work at a newstation, we are all on top of that shit, and we were joking about it as it came in. Completely crazy how these schools are really scared. I remember as a kid I always got off in Harford county because of the Hereford zone, with North Harford High and Jarrettsville and the like around there. You always hoped Hereford would have freezing rain...

I went to my morning classes. I went home after that (about 11:30) to check if my mom wanted me to drive to Henrico (15/20 minute drive on the interstate, not bad) but she didn't want me going. So I stayed home and napped, and drove to the store and bought food, and napped some more, and watched awful television.
Everyone else got out of school at 2:45. I love this two school deal.

And in my day, that was sayin' something, because UMD never closed on account of anything.

So was that when it was? Was this around February? Would that be February of '95 or '96? I remember that, because I spent the entire month of February in Hawaii on business.

You can't talk about ice to a Montrealer.

Then again, I'm not really a Montrealer. I don't even like Wolf Parade.

Wasn't it 95-96 that was the really bad winter? I was living in an attic in Jersey and every window I had was cracked. No fun.

Right now it's just enough to be pretty here.
