hmm.. That's me!

I went to the national portfolio day at the Corcoran to show my art to Cooper Union, VCU, and the Corcoran. Those are the schools i'm applying to... and well, I went into the Pratt line just on a whim, just because I thought i'td make a cool story if Pratt liked any of my art for some reason... and so I showed it to the representative, and she was really enthusiastic about my work and she told me at the end of our 15 minute critique thing that I didn't need to send in a portfolio because I passed for that, so my art is acceptable Pratt material! I just have to send in an application now and hopefully that means i'm definitely in.

I'm so excited I had to brag.

It'll only be a merry christmas if I can somehow find the money to pay for it, and if my grades are good enough for them, which they aren't, but if they let it slide i'm in.

I've never heard of those schools. Are they on the east coast?

When you are bopping around DC, have you ever stopped at Zed's Ethiopian on M Street in Georgetown?

Richmond (VCU), DC (Corcoran), New York (Brooklyn-Pratt) and.. Fuck, forgot exactly where Cooper Union is but they're both in New York.

I really liked it. The education there is different. a lot depends on what kind of education you want and the kind of person you are and the type of art you want to do.

Fine art
Commercial art
illustration
Communcation Design
product design
etc.

What do you want to do?
(this is the hard part...once you decide then the choice is much clearer.)

what direction do you plan to go?

i only make one recomendation to art students. take as much screen printing as you can. it's fun and usefull in just about any line of artwork from painting to sculpture to graphic design to helping bands.

i took it the last semester of my senior year, and i regret having not taken it earlier.

I don't know what I want to do... I kind of wanted to go into art therapy, and then become a college professor, and then just live off my paintings and die an old woman on the street, or something. I don't know yet.

Maybe another Cooper but Cooper Union is in New York and it's fucking free! But that's because they only accept 65 out of an estimated 1,200 applicants a year.

thank you! I was pretty excited. Even though the Art Institute of Chicago is supposed to be the best art school out there, I think Pratt is a great accomplishment. I'm very excited. I'm not sure if i'm actually going to go yet, though, seeing as though I haven't entered an application or not. It just was a great boost to my confidence to hear they liked my stuff. I thought she was kidding.

It would be really cool to get into Cooper Union, too, though. I don't know. That's just another thing I feel like I absolutely cannot accomplish that would make me feel incredible if I did. Like I said before, they only accept 65 out of an estimated 1,200 applicants. That's a very small number and it's highly unlikely that I of all people would get in.

But it's worth a shot isn't it? The lady had nice things to say, I just have to come up with a fucking incredible piece for the home test if I can even be considered.

Be more positive, cp. Sounds like you got some really good feedback today. Yeah, the odds seem stacked, but sometimes it swings your way. When I was doing my PhD I applied for government funding. It was long shot AT BEST, as they funded less than 100 across all of Canada. Odds stacked against me but, miracle of miracles, I got the it. Happiest fucking day of my life. Sometimes the nearly impossible happens.
