Cookies & Co still there? I think I heard (or dreamt I heard) that it was gone, and I hope it isn't so. It's catty-cornered from Wuxtry, on College Street (may it live forever), downstairs. I worked there for like 6 years, still have regular dreams I get to go back and just work there forever... best job ever.

Unfortunately, I'm about 80% sure that it's gone now. I think some kind of knick knack store is there now. I even think it was some kind of sandwich shop after it was Cookies $ Co.

There really are only a handful of places that are still there that were there when we were there. Staples such as Georgia Theater, Junkmans, Flanagans, etc. Downtown Athens is the black hole for bars and eateries. Even Rocky's and Uptown lounge bit it I think.

Meanwhile, Starbucks is more popular than ever at the corner of of Broad and College. :nono:

I had a horrible experience in front of that store once. While walking down Clayton St. a bird sitting on the sign that hung over the sidewalk shit on me. I luckily had a hat on and it hit the bill of my hat.

Goddamn Pigeons! Rats with wings.

I had hoped that c+c would survive, as it was started around (does some math) 1986 or so, and was thriving when I left town in 2000.

Pigeons shitting on people on college street happens once every 4 or 5 minutes, unfortunately. When you work on it, and have to service customers outside, you learn to keep kleenexes at the ready.

Once, on a game day, some drunkass barfed right up there on the corner of college and whatsit (dammit) - away from the arch - that street. Anywho, puked all the hell over. But it was so crowded, that people 4 feet away had no idea. So traffic marched right through it. Then somebody slipped and landed in it. I noted all this while pulling the tables in for the evening.

I wish I had spent some of time being sober in Athens when I went. I don't remember much of anything. Train tracks is the only thing I really remember.

Soon as I figure out what your weakness is, I'll get you up here for a visit. Already working on Bloor (4,336 bars/sq mile, loosly moraled co-eds) and Loog (frozen butter, fried cheese, cheaper hookers).

Twas when I was last there, but that's been a couple of years. That was some good sauce.

All of that sounds nice. If I ever make a trip to the midwest, The Squirrgle Vice and Temptations show will be a must. Actually the Mrs. oldbulee and I have been thinking about moving lately. We really like the south though, but all this talk of morally compromised women and fatty foods has got me reconsidering.

Easily 1 of the top 3 most drunken times of my life. Fucking great time.

JB's Polish sausage. I had one at about 2:30am about a month ago when I was in town for the UGA/Auburn game (fucking bastards).

Cookies and Co. is still there. On the corner of College and Clayton. They also sell samdwiches, and have expanded into a small cafe. They took over the Chocolate Shoppe space when the landlord (that Heery's asshole) suddenly raised the rent on Chocolate Shoppe.

JB's Polish Sausage is still there.

Rocky's Pizza is gone, replaced by an Amici.

Uptown Lounge is gone and replaced by some other shitty bar.

Velvet Elvis/Hollister's/whatever is about to reopen as a Ben and Jerry's.

Blue Sky is also gone, replaced by another coffee shop/bar that's actually pretty nice...

BUT... The Grill is still here. Yay.
