i saw this dude do a live set on some tv show, and quite frankly, he sucked. He was just randomly scratching at il-advised intervals, and he couldn't get the beats to flow at all. I thought someone of his stature would, like, not suck.

Yeah, but he did put out "The Message" and "White Lines" among others. Pretty cool in my book.

And let's not forget 'The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel'. That alone gets him a pass on any latter day flubs.
