How did you meet your significant other? How did you propose? Have you been married more than once?

I've always found this interesting.

My wife and I are from the same hometown in northern ON, so we were in high school together. She hated me intensely because I'm kind of an asshole, but my wit and charm eventually won her over. There was no down on the knee proposal, we were just talking about future plans and figured we should probably do it. That was 12 years ago.

my wife and i met through a mutual friend. we ended up going out a few times, and then it just hit us...both at the same time...we've gotta be together!! we'd spend every day after work sitting around chatting and getting to know eachother. i felt so comfortable with her. we would have spur of the moment ideas to go on road trips. it would be saturday afternoon, and we'd say "let's drive to the keys and stay for a few days". and we did. i loved how spontaneous she was.

we were together for 6 months and we moved in together. 1 month later i proposed, and then 2 months after that we were married. the proposal was at dinner.

we've been married now for 10 years. she's rad.

We met over a Thanksgiving break about 10 years ago at a hometown bar. I was out of University, she in her last year. After she graduated she moved to SF. I chased her there and we dated another year before we engaged. The funny thing is, all our lives we have had mutual friends and/or acquaintenances, went to the same elementary school, same school bus for awhile, lived only a few blocks away, literrally brushed shoulders at events;though, we only met once when I was an ID checker at a local bar. She was 18. The next time I saw her was 4 years later. I found out after we were engaged, when she got home after our 1st date she told her parents we were gonna get married.

We met at a mouse-themed party at a flat, I think it was above an estate agent's office in Islington.

We met freshman year at LSU, and went on a date to one of the football games. Neither of us we're really ready to date anyone exclusively. So we both played around for a little while. She got hammered one night, and kind of stalked me at party. I thought it was kind of funny. Eventually I asked her on another date, and that was pretty much it. We dated throughout college and grad school for about a total of 6 years. Around christmas 2 years ago, I brought her to a really nice romantic resturant in New Orleans and proposed. We were married in November of 04' and it's been one great year.

I met my wife back in 1995 because of the internet (I'm pretty sure this was long before there were internet-dating sites!) I can definitely say that if it weren't for the band Rush, we'd have never met because she emailed me after reading something I posted to the National Midnight Star, a fan-run mailing list. She saw that I had an ASU email address and for some reason decided to contact me, as she didn't know anyone else at ASU who was into Rush. Likewise, I didn't know any women who were into Rush, so that pretty much sealed the deal for me. The funny thing about it is that it took the internet to get us together, but we'd lived less than a mile apart for most of our lives, and had even gone to the same high school, middle school, and elementary school - just three years apart. We'll have been together as a couple 10 years as of tomorrow, in fact. It all must have worked out alright because now we have one of these:

I was working in San Francisco bay area, coordinating medical research projects. My wife was working at Duke Hospital, one of the sites for one of our research projects. We had a study kick off meeting in New Orleans in October of 1998 - that's where we met. We went out to dinner the first night and ended up going out for a few drinks and did a little dancing. Next day we went to breakfast and went on a ride on one of those paddlewheelers. We were walking around the next day when a guy ran up and stole my wife's camera off her shoulder. She had some credit cards in the case so we went back to the hotel to cancel them. I was being my usual shy self so she made a move on me. She had to catch a plane in a few hours so we said goodbye and promised to write. The weird part was that we actually did write - back and forth for several weeks via email and letters, then we started calling each other. I went out to NC for Thanksgiving that year, she came out to SF a few times, I went out there a few more times. I quit my job and in March of the next year and she flew out and we drove back to NC in my car. Got engaged in September - got down on one knee along the bay in Charleson, SC. Got married the following May.

Some people think it's fun with kids, too. A disturbing number, in fact.

I met my husband at a Fugazi concert in Atlanta in 1990. He asked me to marry him 5 years later while we were out camping, and I didn't believe him, so I laughed at him. True story. When he actually got down on his knee and said, "Dana, I'm not kidding," then I started to cry and said yes. First and only marriage for both of us. We're at 10 years married, 15 years together.
