There's a young girl who I work with (young = 22). She's an Indian, born in America, who listens almost exclusively to Indian music. OF course, one day we got talking about music and I let her borrow a couple of Cornershop CDs.

She liked them and burned me some Asha Bhosle stuff.

Well, today she gave me a comp she made of Sonu Niigaam and I gotta say, it's pretty cool.

It's more Westernized than Asha Bhosle's music, but still very Indian, for the most part. Occasional hip-hop beats and guitars thru Marshall stacks... but definately Indian.

Any of y'all know his music?
Impressions?
Billy?
Anyone?

So... not much interest in Indian music, huh?

Well this has some hip-hop and hard rock elements and it's pretty cool. Check it out, you never know...

[montythemongoose]I know Phil (epa) distances from his ancestral culture (for the most part), but I still think he should refer to his erections as Bollywood.[/montythemongoose]

A bump of an old thread, because I'm listening again today and it is feggin' cool.

Highly recommend his stuff.

RIYL: Cornershop, Beck, David Byrne

Here's his website if you're interested: www.onlysonu.com
It's pretty damn cheezy, but the music is good, like I said.
