Welcome to the first edition of Iraqi Update;

I arrived late last night and was promptly greeting with a mortar attack this morning. I was inside at the time so I didn't actually see the attack. One of the soldiers in my unit saw it. She said it landed about 300 meters from the dining facility, so it was about 1000 meters from where I was at the time. it was kind of surreal. there was a boom and the building shook. everybody was just kinda look at each other. then a few minutes later the siren went off. Then there was an accountable formation and wait for the "All Clear". We are expecting more frequent attacks due to the upcoming elections on Dec. 15th. The unit I am supporting has already been here a month so than means one less month I'll have to spend over here.
