Welcome to Iraqi Update 003;
Hello out there in Obner land. As you know, the Iraqi people had the first free elections in over 25 years yesterday. Hopefully, they can continue to take over more responsible for their country and we can start to pull some troops out. I THINK, and this is my opinion and by no way an offical army view, that the US will continue to have troops here for a long time, but in a much more limited role, more more in line with our troops stationed in S. Korea.
I been checking Obner on a daily basis since I've arrived here at LSA Anaconda. The living conditions here aren't that bad. I stated in much worse conditions, minus the threat of mortar attacks, back in the States. The mortars are the thing that really concern me. I someone shoots at you, chances are you will be able to return fire and defend yourself. With motars, they strike without warning and there is not much you can do the defend yourself unless you actually see or hear the imcoming mortar. So I try not to dwell on it, yet at the same time always be aware that a threat exist.
But enough of this serious stuff. I enjoy reading your collective post and the replies to mine, especially the music/humorous one. They make this place a little more liveable and gives me something to look forward to. Speaking of looking forward, I emailed my local indie record store back home and order some CDs that the owner is going to ship over here for me. Kinda like a Christmas present to myself. She, the owner of the store Stinkweeds,
www.stinkweeds.com (insert shameless plug here), sent me an email saying that the order is on its way. Maybe it will here for Christmas. That would be nice. Once again, thanks for all your support and ,as always, I look forward to reading your replies.
Obnerly yours,
Mike
