cued up even

You can get his solo best of - Besterberg - 20 tunes including a few rarities

here is where i would go, however.

1. Stereo/Mono (mono is the better part of this)
2. Come Feel Me Tremble
3. Folker
4. Suicaine Gratifaction

The rest are pretty much tied (14 Songs and Eventually are the poppiest and most over produced).

I recommend Eventually and Come Feel Me Tremble - but all his solo stuff is ridiculously spotty.

Depends what you are looking for.

14 Songs if you are looking for his Adult AOR pop style (similar to the songs you probably know from the movie Singles)
Come Feel Me Tremble (if you want the raw, just let the tape catch any imperfections sound)

although I'm not really opposed to the "don't bother" answer either as despite liking to varying degrees most all of his solo work, none of it rates with the replacements and there's probably better stuff that you could buy.

My standard smart-ass yet legitimate response is The Replacements, All Shook Down.

Yes, it was made under the entire band's name, it was primarily a Westerberg solo vehicle. I think "Attitude" is the only song that reeled in the entire foursome to play.

I never got around to Come Feel Me Tremble, so my recommendation would be to pick up Stereo/Mono then the rest of the proper releases at Half.com or the used bin for a couple bucks. At a quick glance, Half.com has the following prices available: 14 Songs, $0.75; Eventually, $0.75; Suicaine Gratification, $3.75; Folker, $5.00.

I checked out the tracklisting for Besterberg, but it's missing some of my favorites, namely "Waiting For Somebody" (Singles Soundtrack) and "Someone I Once Knew" (14 Songs)

3. Grandpaboy(Westerberg as Grandpaboy)
4. All Shook Down(I'll defer to E Fu's remarks)
5. Folker
6. Eventually
7. 14 Songs
8. Suicaine Gratifaction

I thought Eventually was more overproduced than 14 Songs

There are gems on all of them and overall some middling tunes mixed in, but very few on downright clunkers. I like his writing style and sound since he left the Replacements days, though I feel I am in the minority on that.

I'd say have someone make you a mix or go download one yourself because as you've seen here his solo stuff is really, really hit or miss. But I'd honestly say that about the Mats, too - & they're in my all time Top 5 bands.

The only real out & out stinker in the Westerberg solo catalog is "Folker", IMO. And even that one has the fantastic "As Far As I Know" & a couple other decent tunes.
