No kidding. Don't mean to be snarky to people who like the band (too late I suppose,) but....why?

nobody would talk about this band if not for those vocals. the music is good, but it'd just be lost among everything else that is just as good. this is definitely a "no such thing as bad publicity" situation.

i saw them in september and i am certain he is trying to make himself sound like that. i'm convinced that he could sing normally, especially if held at gunpoint.

I like the way he sounds on the album. Yeah, it's annoying but it gets hooky the more you listen to it. Watching him live, it was just plain annoying.

Dude. Read my mind.

Either he's just out of touch with what he sounds like, doesn't care, or it's on purpose. My money's on 2. This was a bad way to be introduced to the band.

What blows my mind is that some Obners have their album as their top pick for the year.

My gut reaction is  but I haven't heard the album, nor indeed anything but that performance there. But still... jesus. Over all those other good ones this year? Man.

I imagine about 4 seconds of that mumbly voice cracking and sputtering tipped you off?

God, spit it out, mushmouth!!

I listened to it once because of the Pitchfork review and hastily slammed down the headphones after a good 4 minutes. I chalked up the negative listening experience to not being cool enough to get it. I figured I'd see how well it aged and then give it a second shot later. I've been known to hate something and then like it 5 years later.

I dig the album. It's in my top 10-15.

I like it. It definitely has its own feel, but the Wilderness s/t is getting positiive play and the vocals on that are way worse than CYHSY!

And people still like Blueberry Boat, for no appreciable reason...so I put nothing past anyone.

I still like it a lot. But then I assume FF intend to be funny. Hopefully, they do.

Exactly. I couldn't believe how awful it was; way to ruin my favorite song.

This is how I feel about the disc, so I guess it's a good thing I didn't see the live performance.

I can't say I love it, but Skin of My Country Yellow Teeth gets humed a lot in these parts.
DEFINITELY a grower, and you have to get past the vocals for a while, but it later becomes part of the charm.

That album still holds up a year later. There's lots to hear on that one.

If I've learned anything from this place, it's that if I've seen enough love for a band, then it has to have some sorta redeeming quality somehow. I struggled to remember this last night as that sweater-clad pillow biter reluctantly moaned his way through a very ordinary guitar pop song.

...says Sweaterfan Numero Uno!!!!

It ain't cold on the set of Conan. They had every intention of looking like they just stepped out of a locally-owned fair trade coffee shop and happened to stumble on stage.
