Watched this tonight...got it from Netflix. Its long and drawn out, not particularly fast-paced in the middle but I think it serves a purpose. In case you aren't aware (I wasn't), Bering Strait is a Russian bluegrass/country act that is made up of classically trained Russian teens. They all love american country though, so under the tutelage of a man who played them worn out Flat & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, etc tapes, a band was formed. By chance an american artdealer heard them in a Russian Mex restaurant and funded their way over, and from there they met Tim DuBois, who signed them to Arista. Unfortunately through label shakeup, they lost their deal, but DuBois takes them to other labels. The doc follows the band as their hopes get crushed time and again, and finally to where they are now. 2 albums under their belt with Universal. Interesting viewing if you want a doc on music that isn't about a known band, or if you are a country fan.

Hmmmm...I would say pop country. Although, one of the kids at the beginning starts ripping a version of a Bela song on banjo that was amazing. Very talented kids.

Netflix is great...I do the 3 at a time. Best $20 I spend every month. I'm a rather diligent movie watcher and my weekly bills were outrageous so, this was the logical choice. Not only that but their selection is bar none. Pretty much if its out on DVD, they have it.
