This shit cracked me up last night on SNL.

The song is actually pretty dope, yo.

"The Chronic..."

"WHAT?"

"...Cles of Narnia."

Yeh, that was a pretty funny interval on a desperately unfunny show.

i thought that episode was not horrible - as far as recent SNL's go. Bad, yes, but watchable.

the rap song was great.

I thought last night's episode was pretty good, as I said in the drinking thread. I'm glad you have a copy of this rap song, cuz that was easily the highlight of the show.

Digital shorts and the fake commercials are where it's at.

Sandberg something. This is his first season. The other new guy does an awesome impression of Al Pacino.

That was a nice break from studying for exams. Made me laugh, that's all I'm worried about.

I haven't even watched SNL in years, but that was great. Here's the MP3 if anyone wants it:

The best is the gun shot at the end like they do on EVERY rap song on an award show.

I thought that the end-of-the-show spelling bee was the funniest thing I've seen on SNL this year. I wish I would've taped that.

But yes, thanks for the Parnell rap. Always hilarious.

Anyone else find it annoying that this clip has provoked a bunch of big-media analysis and think pieces about how its popularity means there's a problem with rap that it will somehow cure?

Like this: http://www.slate.com/id/2133316/

Or this: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/27/arts/ ... ?th&emc=th

It's ridiculous. The reason this thing has exploded is because it's funny and dorky white dudes w/ high-speed connections find it amusing and send it to their friends. Present company included.

The above pieces are just overblown excuses to get a mention of the thing in print. The author sees it's popular and needs something other than a "hey kids, this is funny" story to justify its existance to the editor and get it into print.

The result is overblown crap like the above that takes all the fun out of the pop cultural artifact being examined. Times like this are when I don't want someone showing me what's behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain. Just let me laugh and leave well enough alone.

well, it could be that this SNL skit featured a track that is far better than a good portion of rap being released today.

I don't see how the Times piece has anything to do with that.

It's good and funny, no doubt. But I think you're making a big overstatement, D.
If I felt like putting on my Whiney hat I'd say this is getting so much pub because it's made by a couple dorky white dudes who are close enough to the authors' socio-ethnic demo that they don't have to worry about getting called out of touch while writing about something that deals with rap, even if the creation being examined is just a well-executed jokey piece of juxtaposition.

Would Charlie Murphy and Dave Chappelle get half the buzz if they lampooned death metal in a sketch? Hell fuckin' no.

Agreed.

You got anything by We Are Scientists?

A Detroit band I've been digging — Lee Marvin Computer Arm — is opening for them next month and I'm leaning toward checking it out. The Pitchfork review didn't tell me much, big surprise.

That's my favorite line too.

I don't get what the song has to do with snacking though.
