Now, I admit that I don't have the stomach for it myself, but a guy I work with is a hunter and he bagged a buck last week.

Just sent me an email that there was fresh venison jerkey and venison sticks at his desk!

Eating now...
Deeee-freaking-licious.

You know, his wife is Mexican.
I wonder if she makes venison tamales.
That sounds amazing.

Venison tamales are very good, but fresh venison sausage is the way to go.

Yep. I grew up eating moose and deer, so I can barely stomach it now. Except for the jerky. I'll never tire of that. And the sausages are usually not too bad either.

I have about 10 lbs. in my freezer. Went to a "hunting camp" about a week and a half ago, and the host was giving away tenderloins and roasts.

They made one of the best appetizers I have EVER had:
piece of Venison tenderloin
piece of jalapeno
wrap in bacon

OOOOOOH!!

Venison is tasty stuff... and very lowfat. Imagine... wild animals feeding on grass could be better for you than factory cows!

My brothers-in-law have knocked down a couple this season, so I'm sure I'll be having some fried backstrap at some time over the holidays. Deelish.

Is that where you drive around in a jeep and "hunt" basically domesticated animals and shoot them while they are walking up to you looking for food? Sorry...had to get my petaesque jab in.

No, not at all. A lot of rich people maintain lodges/hunting camps in the woods up north of Mobile...this guy happens to own like 560 acres of uncut woodland. I didn't actually hunt, mind you, but most of these folks are serious sportsmen, and would scoff at something that.

What does it matter if you stalk your prey for 5 days and kill it with your bare hands or if you kill it at point blank range with a shotgun blast to the face? Dead is dead.

Note: I'm all for conservation and making animals lives as happy and filled with butterflies and sunshine as the next guy. Also I hope they die as quick and painless as possible. But I don't really see the difference if they 're thinking it's meal time from the friendly camo dude or if they get blasted out of nowhere minding they're own business.

Ah nice. I won't get into my anti hunting rap then haha. I've seen these camps many a times where people pay to shoot some "wild" caribou or something and the animals have been hand feed, etc up to that point, so when the hunters approach in a jeep they think "hey food".

I don't know anybody that hunts who would do that because, uh, it wouldnt really make any sense.

Deer hunting is about sitting in an uncomfortable tree stand in the freezing cold for five hours.

But fuck it. I fucking hate deers. Anybody ever hit one in their car. Not fun. Nor cheap.

you're forgetting how the deer is then posed on its hind legs with a murder snarl on its face in the would-be hunter's living room.

that said, venison is awesome.
