My used JVC R-X400 has finally died. It has been so long since I looked for stereo components, I don't know where to start. Anyone have any recommendations?

I've been very pleased with my Yamaha HTR-5860. I'll be buying a second soon to replace an old JVC RX-554V that doesn't have digital inputs.

I suggest doing a search for receivers with Froogle, sorting by price and checking out better-reviewed items from your price range. That's how I found mine (and I got a great price because it was an open item).

i've had very good luck with sony recievers. i've had one for about 10 years that i've never had any problems with, and i also have my dad's old sony reciever from when he was in college (circa early 70s) that is still alive and kicking. but unless you're an audiophile one is pretty much as good as the next.

Buy on eBay. I bought an analog Yamaha about 7 years ago and it's been great. I only use it for music though. Are you using for a full home audio set up?

I know from research I did back then that NAD is primo shit. I'm sure there are tons of other boutique/audiophile companies that make comparable stuff.

Other reputable companies are Denon, Yamaha, Harman Kardon. I guess budget should be a consideration, that's why I mentioned eBay.

Beat me to it. I was going to write, "You know, the Ravens needed a receiver and went out and got Mason..." Oh Timmy, you're just wittier faster I suppose.

If yr going new, good luck. If you consider vintage, more bang for the dinero. (This is 2 channel related only).

If you want HT, again, good luck.

If you got no bucks or are going vintage, definitely check out Craigslist on the WWW if there's one in your area

NAD is not primo shit. My NAD receiver took a dump after less than a year, and that totally pissed me off, after what I paid for it.

My suggestion would be to do a search for NAD reliability before a purchase. OTOH, my Onkyo receiver has been nada but stellar.

Am I just ahead of my time, or was this the most boring game ever?

ESPN's coverage sucks, and the amount of commercials was just disgusting.

I never watch fb on tv, so maybe I'm just out of the loop.

Depends on the product too. I wouldnt touch a NAD CD player (Not Another Defect)- but I heard they worked those problems out. My NAD amp has been wonderful to me.. esp. for the price. But yeah, NAD isnt really 'primo' , its kinda entry level audiophile. But to me, for the price, you cant beat it.

Another brand to stay away from - KLH.

I bought one of their 2 channel receivers from Best Buy when we moved into our new place in Sept. 2004. I needed an extra one for the living room TV/VCR/DVD setup, & figured this would do the trick. Nothin' fancy...it just needed to drive a couple small-ish speakers.

Thing lasted about a year. It's now just sitting in the box here in my computer room.
