Your responses will determine the first album I purchase in 2006.

Be nice. It's the holidays. Besides, I haven't been around that much lately so I've missed most of the discussions on the Strokes.

Search for "Fear of Sleep" which should bring up the thread where we all gave our most recent thoughts. There's roughly been about 4300 in the last month or so.

Their best yet, by far. Near perfect. My 2006 #1 (at this point)

This band just does next to nothing for me.

Me too. Only have heard the debut but really don't get all the love. I pulled it out for another listen a couple of weeks ago after it won its year in the SK polls and liked it even less than I remembered. Distorted vocals has to be one of the worst musical fads of recent memories and we have the strokes largely to blame for it.

Distorted vocals are largely gone from the new one.

The single makes me want to take off my shirt and dance.

Gonna have a hard time explaining that one to Gibby Haynes.

I love one song and think the others are far worse than anything off the first two albums.

I had this opinion after my first listen. My current opinion comes from 5+ listens. Not to say you will change your mind, but, like all great albums, some growing was necessary.

I couldn't even get through half the album. I just bought Room On Fire the other day too and besides 12:51 that album bored the hell out of me too.

It's really good. Bigger and more clear and moving forward. And some hot shit guitar playing.

After listening to it at the record store, I came to the conclusion that it was crap. Didn't buy it. I'll save my money for something else.
