Seems like the obvious need with Brooks apparently out. Is Leinart as good as Palmer or Brady? I know that we don't even have a coach now, but this is heavy on my football mind. In your opinion, is he a future boom or bust?

i think he will be pretty good in the nfl. seems to make good decisions and is real accurate. not a fast runner but neither are the ones you mention above. and obviously tough and a winner.

it's time for the NFL to get over the notion of the running QB. it's a nice thing to have in your arsenal, but it's a patchwork for when your offense doesn't work.

so his speed shouldn't be a problem if they can put a team around him.

I would think they'd look to trade down--possible takers:

Miami
Tampa
Baltimore
Kansas City
Oakland
Detroit

Until they establish where "home" is going to be, I wouldn't waste my money on a 2nd pick rookie QB. He's going to have enough of a challenge establishing himself in the league without the distraction of worrying about the team's fate.

Whatever they do, it will be wrong by their very nature.

excellent 2nd stringer in the NFL. I've heard rumblings here in Balto that they are looking to trade up for Bush. Then next season do the same for Brady Quinn. Did I mention this in another post here, or something, seems like I typed this before.

I would take Culpepper over Leinart.

ive heard some people who know question his armstrength. i think he can become a very good qb, since if pennington can make it with the kind of arm he has, leinart should do ok. but if hes drafted by a team like the saints, he will be bound to fail.

In a way, yes. Culpepper has shown he can at least handle a blitzing NFL D. Leinart to me just seems like a guy who comes in when yr #1 gets hurt. I think he's a good QB, but certainly not a starter. Kinda like a Flutie.

Pennington made it? I'm a Jet fan and I will argue that Pennington has not proven a thing yet and may never, at this point, come back.

Hard to evaluate a player like Leinhart - he's surrounded by all stars at almost all positions. I think he's a crapshoot.

i think he can be a top 10 QB again, but i don't think he's as good as his stats were last year.

i guess culpepper scares me for some reason.
i just fear another "jay fiedler-type-era" in miami. but then again, that was wannsuck. saban won't let that happen.

Jay Fiedler was never an MVP candidate.

I am a lifelong UCLA fan... and I truly detest USC. But saying that, I've had several years to look at and resent Leinart. His arm strength is not the best, he is not particularly mobile, but he is a strong if not fast runner, accurate passer, and he has the brain, leadership and eyes of an NFL quarterback. He's not top Pro Bowl perhaps, but I bet he plays as a starting quarterback in a Super Bowl before he's done. It kills me to say it.

Saban likes his offense to not fuck it up for the defense. He rarely relies on his QB to make plays. He likes them to "manage the game and not turn it over." I think Leinhart fits that mold well.

OK, try this one out: If Vince Young comes out this year, do you take him over Leinart?

Not a chance. He practically throws side armed. I have really strong doubts about him as a passer. I might draft him as WR.

PTI jerks predict that Leinart will pull an Eli/Elway and tell the Saints that he's not going to sign with them before they even draft him because the franchise is in such "disarray". If that was part of the criteria, the Saints would have never signed a draft choice. Ever. Kornheiser even suggests that Leinart might agree to sign if Benson promised to move the franchise to L.A.. I almost choked my plasma.

How is Vince Young anyways? I know next to nothing about college players since I never watch college ball.

I think we'll both know a little more after the Rose Bowl. You gonna watch that?
