Can they please stop saying "Western Virginia"? I mean seriously, it just shows ineptitude when you refer to one of the 50 states as part of another.

I'm certain that CNN stands for, "Certainly Not News".

no but I would imagine a college degree would insist upon some sort of basic grasp of geography and/or intelligence.

And what's up with the all-of-a-sudden change to Pa-DILL-uh rather than Pa-DEE-uh?

I also think they should give these Revlon fucks an unlabled map and make them point out the places they are talking about.

Kinda like a version of Marco Polo? I guess I'm kinda biased on the whole situation as my fiance is from WV and I went to college out there and got my fill of jokes (still do).

Last year we took the extra scenic route through WV, starting in Wheeling and only taking backroads until we got to Morgantown to spend the night. It was awesome. All kinds of shit that you just don't see everyday, and I don't mean that pejoratively.

CNN is reporting the miners are alive...unofficially. 12 of them.

Holy crap. This has gotten weird. Apparently now they are reporting 11 are dead and only 1 is alive and in a hospital. To top it off apparently there are fistfights IN THE CHURCH between the families and the people who were saying they were alive. Crap. This is just sad.

Isn't that just like saying "Northern California"? What's the big?

I sympathize with these people who have to work in this industry because it is the only decent paying job in their area, but doesn't it seem odd that we still need coal miners in the 21st century.
It just seems like we could be doing it in a more technologically advanced way without subjecting men to black lung and carbon monoxide poisoning on a regular basis. What about using robots?

Because northern is a region of california, West Virginia is its own state. By saying "western" virginia, you are implying its part of the state of Virginia. I hope you were joking.

I was up until god knows when following this. Manchin was going to come off shiny and great, and at his news conference this morning, he came off as a bumbling idiot. His career is effectively over. The ICG people at least had a statement, and were able to form coherent and logical sentences. They however are going to be under so much scrutiny that I wouldn't be surprised if Hatfield resigned. Oh, for added intrigue watch as their stock drops on the NYSE- "ICO".

Its my understanding that they do mostly use machines, and it isn't like John Henry down there. I do however think you need humans to assess and guide the machines underground.

Yeah, I had just been watching the coverage on MSNBC and then when I stopped at the BP to get some coffee and a biscuit, there it was...I actually said "Holy shit, I cant believe they printed that!" quite loudly.

They had that on CNN at 4am EST this morning after the press conferences. The ed. we have at the station here was updated, so no boo boo in the rush to print.
