Why can't they make sense?
Why can't they spell correctly?
Why do they use numbers in place of letters?
Why don't links ever work?
What's the point of viruses that send out emails without viruses?
Why are they all whacked out email addresses?

What a waste of time and bandwidth.

I think the answer to all of those questions involve ways to get around being recognized as spam. Except as to why the links don't work, the point is not to click them. You tryin' to buy somg dong cream, timmy?

spam is riduculously cheap to do. for a few hundred dollars you can mail things like this to thousands of people. get two or three people to buy whatever youre selling and youve made back your money.

I have no idea what that means. If you are going to send out spam, why not have it make sense? I just don't get it.

To avoid spam filters.

Ditto
Quote:
Why don't links ever work?
Either because they didn't anticipate the traffic, or because they were shut down by the time you clicked the link.
Quote:
What's the point of viruses that send out emails without viruses?
They probably did have viruses in them, but got removed by your ISP.
Quote:
Why are they all whacked out email addresses?
Most of them are use-once type email addresses.

so, you are basically saying that spammers are wasting their time, and that in the near future it will be wiped out completely?

I don't see how you got that from anything I said, so I'll just presume you were speaking to someone else.

Spam does need to die...but it won't.

It's obviously some secret code. Either that or some terrible run-on sentence with all the punctuation removed. Something about poisoning, though, so be wary...weary...whatevery...

Here's one I got recently:

From: Ignatius Ota [ignay@scanda.com.mx]

himself! Their collective enthusiasm grew. How long do you want us to hassle this turkey? asked the American from the Deep South. I will talk the ears off his bald head! added the Belgian. No, just long enough for me to see that hes alone, said Bourne, that no one else is with him or comes out after him. Piece a cake, man. We shall earn not only your francs but your respect. You have the word of a Légion corporal! Im touched. Now, get back in there. The e avenue Montaigne. Antiques, fine paintings, servants, charge accounts-everything a woman once in high fashion should be expected to have for the circles she still travels in: And money. Every month my bank receives eighty thousand francs from Geneva-somewhat more than enough for me to pay the bills. For, you see,

I bet it's a big puzzle. If you got all the spam in the world together, you could piece this story back together and have fantastic novel.

Actually, that one's Ludlum. I recently read the Bourne trilogy, so it's somewhat familiar.
