On MSN or another message board or anything like that?

Someone in a band the rest of us would have heard about. Or an actor or actress?

Not on a regular basis but every couple months or so I exchange emails with a lead singer of a band that most everyone here knows of. Heck he almost came to my wedding. But then couldn't because of a show.

I used to talk to the bassist from World Leader Pretend a good bit, but he got axed from the band. Not they were famous either.

I'm good friends with last year's Miss America runner up. Not really famous either I guess, but HAWT nonetheless.

That's about it.

A good friend's father is a locally very-well-known Chicago restaurant/film/theater critic.

I talk to a ton of politicians and elected officials on a daily/weekly basis.

From local to state/national

do past/present editors of CMJ magazine count as semi-famous?

a good friend of mine from college is the drummer for Hatebreed. i'm even thanked in the liner notes of their albums. that's my biggest name drop. other than that, i pal around with a bunch of pop punk bands/people mostly from the NY/NJ area, and the other board i post at has tons of pop punk people that are high on my pedestal but may not float anyone's boat around here (peeps like Mass G, Larry LIvermore, occasionally Ben Weasel).

Can I tell CMJ that I am recruiting all y'all to come back, all the while telling all of y'all to stay here? He was the best at that.

And I talk to you a couple times a week about those people.....

I also talk to a a lot of people who are famous in their own minds but 99.9% of them are just hopelessly delusional.

That and hoodwinking them Injuns. I mean he could have just given them some blankets soaked in typhoid like in the "good old days", but no, he had to get that money as well.

Meh, they were probably drunk anyways.

I don't usually communicate by email or message boards with anyone real famous. I know some of the lesser known Saddle Creek people used to post on the message board for the label, but I don't check out that board anymore. I used to get emails from a guy in Oranges Band after talking with him in another message board, but they stopped.
Most of the semi-famous people I talk to I tend to see at shows or at bars here in Lincoln when they are recording stuff with Presto! The biggest example I have is drinking with Rilo Kiley two nights a week at Duffy's while they recorded More Adventurous. Other than that I just see the guys who run Presto! Mike and AJ Mogis alot, Mike is a multi-instrumentalists for Bright Eyes and AJ plays Bass for Criteria.

I talk to Josh B. of Riviera weekly, unless he's eating pudding, which is more often than you care to know.
