Yeah, over the last decade on the world music scene my biggest favorite would have to be Cesaria Evora. I have a few including that one, but the CD I would recommend to anyone is her first US release on Nonesuch in 1995,
Cesaria. Very nice sound quality as well. Her vocal is mixed very big so it softly dominates the soundstage and I love the way the musicians support that beautiful voice. You can't really go wrong with any of her albums, but still ...
BTW, there's a very cool little compilation from around that same time (1996) called "Soul of Cape Verde" that has Cesaria and a bunch of other artists from that region. Great stuff.
