usually it's entirely subject-matter based - phpbb.com if obner fucks up, opensuse.org if linux fucks up, sharkyextreme.com if i'm building a computer, etc. i never really stick around anywhere, but it would be nice to find an accepting linux community where i didn't feel like a jackass asking semi-n00b questions.

foleybored started as a messageboard contected to a site that offered jamband mp3's for download around 1998. i found it toward the end of 1999, some people on there have been around that long, so its a community of people that started with that common intest and has grown in tastes and subject matter since then.

the nice thing about that board is is that it is heavily monitored (jennydaystar being one such monitor) and keeps the flame wars down to (almost) nil and trolling to a bare minimum....
