I have no idea how accurate this information is or not, so take it for what it's worth.

By "Smashing Pumpkins", I think they mean "Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and friends".

It's going to be like the Lemonheads that are touring now. The original songwriter and a bunch of amateurs.

That's clearly a fraud.

It's written "Matchbox Twenty" these days. Stacey will back me up.

Scweet! A Toby Keith/Goo Goo Dolls 1-2 punch.

Seriously though, is Depeche Mode that big of a draw these days? I know I slept on the newest record, and VH1 seems like is always playing their video, but would people who frequent Coachella really that down with DM?

This somewhat supports the lineup:

Quote:
Smashing Pumpkins set to reform for festivals
Live dates this year looking more likely

Smashing Pumpkins are strongly rumoured to be reforming this summer for live shows - with Coachella touted as their comeback.

Singer Billy Corgan has made no secret of the fact he wants to reform his old band, and NME.COM has learned the band are set to make their comeback at the Californian festival on April 30.

Writing recently on his webpage, Corgan hinted reformation plans were coming along.

"The surprise I have in store for you all will be announced soon enough," he said. "Hold on to your horses. After all, good things surely comes to those who wait....Don't you just love the suspense?"

Corgan remains friends with former Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlain, and is also in contact with the band's second bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, having collaborated with her on her forthcoming second solo album.

The first rumours of the band reforming came when the singer took out an advert in the local Chicago Tribune newspaper where he said "his heart" remains with his old band.

He wrote: "When I played the final Smashing Pumpkins show on the night of December 2, 2000, I walked off the stage believing that I was forever leaving a piece of my life behind. I naively tried to start a new band, but found that my heart wasn't in it. I moved away to pursue a love that I once had but got lost. So I moved back home to heal what was broken in me, and to my surprise I found what I was looking or. I found that my heart is in Chicago, and that my heart is in the Smashing Pumpkins.

"For a year now I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep. But now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again."

Smashing Pumpkins split in 2000 after the release of their final album 'Machina'. Following the split Corgan formed Zwan, who split after one record.

It also supports the supposition that Billy Corgan is a pompous idiot. I still like the Pumpkins, though.

Yeah, true...I'll probably be at one of the other stages or tents catching some other act.

And just what did those other two ever play on a record? Nothing. Not a note.

All you need is Billy, Jimmy and two vessels to fill out the bass and 2nd guitar (and it is 2nd b/c Billy plays most of the solos) and its the Pumpkins.

That's right, didn't Billy play most of Siamese Dream himself with Jimmy on drums?

Yeah, Iha and D'arcy were "too slow" for Billy so he just cut everything himself (including all 26 tracks of guitar on some songs)

And Timis: Yeah I know Iha did some playing but I don't consider him essential to the Pumpkins AT ALL.

i think so. i saw them in november and they were tremendous. (sold out show on a tuesday night in a huge arena.) they still know how to put on a good show. the first half of playing the angel is a return to form, but the latter half isn't so great. i think they're a draw.

There were rumors that My Bloody Valentine were reforming for Coachella (in some lineup or another) but that looks like it didn't happen.

I'd seen another lineup with some crossover of the bands on your list. And MBV was mentioned by the same source. Here's what I heard:

April 29

Depeche Mode, The Strokes, Portishead, Franz Ferdinand, Fatboy Slim, Massive Attack, Infected Mushroom, Royksopp, Kings of Leon, Doves, Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene, Atmosphere, Blackalicious, Super Furry Animals, The Buzzcocks, Primal Scream, Supergrass, Ladytron, DJ Peretz, The Shins, Dieselboy, Tortoise, Sleater Kinney, Richard Hawley, Grooverider, Death From Above 1979, Yesterday's New Quintet, The Walkmen, Son Volt, Will Oldham, The Clientele, Lightning Bolt, Cage, The Crimea, OK Go, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, John Kelly

April 30

The White Stripes, Roxy Music (featuring Brian Eno), The Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Boards of Canada, Underworld, Ween, Death Cab for Cutie, Armin Van Buuren, Built to Spill, De La Soul, Big Star, Iron & Wine, Uberzone, Happy Mondays, Dinosaur Jr, TV on the Radio, Elbow, Eagles of Death Metal, The Tears, Esthero, T. Rauschmiere, Cat Power, Animal Collective, The New Pornographers, Carl Cox, Grandaddy, Calexico, Explosions in the Sky, The Wedding Present, Andy C, Fatlip, DJ Icey, The Notwist and Themselves preforming as 13 & God, Devendra Banhart, The Coral, Stateless, 65 Days of Static

it's not accurate at all according to what i've been hearing (with the exception of a few). you know who my source is, and it's definitely a reliable source.

but then again, he always says those things but he usually gives me a heads up on stuff like this.

it's amazing on how early the rumors start every year... it just gets earlier and earlier.
