I liked his first album, but honestly, I haven't heard anything since then. Should I revisit, or no? Aside from the aforementioned Daylight, that is.
Phantom Moon is great, his best album, no doubt in my mind. Arty, dark, quiet, thoughtful, with really great lyrics from a playwright friend of his. Reminiscent of Nick Drake, one of his heroes. Lots of acoustic guitar and orchestra. Nothing on there that could compare to his radio hits. This new album seems to use that album as a jumping off point - a bit more electric, but again lots of orchestral touches throughout that keeps it dark and somber. There'll likely be nothing radio would want to touch from this album, either, and that's a good thing - his radio material is pretty fluffy (I'll be happy if I never hear "Barely Breathing" again - he has done so much better than this one song.)
