In all seriousness, I remember someone posting about raising money for cancer by shaving their head, some sort of fund-raiser.. since I dont have much hair anymore and I dont like cancer, I thought, why the hell not.

Anyone have info on this? I forgot who mentioned it last year (I think)

i've never heard of shaving your head for cancer. interesting.

i have, on 3 occasions, cut of 12+ inches of my hair to an organization that makes wigs for kids with cancer.

It's a solidarity thing, but looks more impressive when women and kids do it. When adult guys do it they just look like a bunch of Lex Luthers.

Hmmm maybe I will have to set up a similar thing here. I think the best way to do it (like in that article) is to have both Shaving your Head for donations and doing Locks of Love.

i'm nearly positive that you could find a bar to sponsor it. it's good advertising.

Not as such. I just know how to use the search function.

Same here . . . well, I guess I don't technically shave my head as much as buzz it down as close to the scalp as possible, because I'm lazy and don't like shaving my face that much every day, so doing my entire head would be a real chore. I think my hair, if it's measurable at all, is no more than 1/8" at most times.

I was thinking about doing this just the other day. My sis-in-law is undergoing chemo right now, so I figure it'd be a small sign of solidarity.

yeah, i did the st. baldricks thing last march. obviously, you've found the link....

it was a really really cool experience and i'm thinking about doing it again this year.
we had a videographer there documenting the whole event to share with the boy we were sponsoring. he passed away a few months after the event...but i like to think that seeing that video brought some happiness to him.
there were also a couple of really brave women, breast-cancer survivors, that shaved their heads.... just a lot of great stories. overall, a wonderful way to spend a saturday...highly recommended.

Late to the party...yes, Lock of Love is a great organization. I've had several femme friends cut their hair shorter significantly and donate the hair.

My grandmother was just diagnosed wth cancer this week.
She is 89 and is probably just going to refuse treatment.
She'd rather enjoy whatever time she has left, after 9/10 of a century, rather than spending it feeling like shit due to Chemo.

She still sounds pretty down, though.

Jeez, sorry to hear that.

I really dread my parents getting older and what could possibly be in their futures. I don't like to think of my parents being that mortal.
