(after the first year i SWORE i'd never go to this again.... but geez, the lineup is always so tempting.)

http://www.manchestertimes.com/news/vie ... rticle=736

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Radiohead to headline Bonnaroo 2006

Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Death Cab for Cutie, moe, Damian Marley, Bright Eyes, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and My Morning Jacket among those confirmed

Superfly Productions and A.C. Entertainment are letting the cat out of the bag. They have announced the initial lineup for the 2006 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The fifth annual three-day camping and music festival will be held on June 16-18, 2006, on the same beautiful 700-acre farm on New Bushy Branch Road in Manchester, Tenn., 60 miles south of Nashville.

A full list of confirmed acts follows, with more to be announced in the coming weeks to round out the festival’s 80-plus artists and numerous attractions. Since its inception in 2002,
Bonnaroo has evolved into an unrivaled, multi-faceted entertainment experience, swiftly earning its status as the country’s premier music
and arts event.

Bonnaroo’s fifth anniversary lineup represents an expansion on the event’s traditions. Focusing on diversity of programming and the highest live performance standards, the festival will once again feature sets from established artists, newcomers, and the icons who inspired them.

Bonnaroo is proud to host Radiohead’s only American festival appearance
of the summer, along with veteran rocker Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and a host of other artists from various corners of the industry,
including Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Death Cab for Cutie, moe., Damian Marley, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Matisyahu, and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.

"We are proud of the fact that Bonnaroo is a major
event for so many artists and fans," says Superfly’s Richard Goodstone.

"This year’s lineup continues our mission to bring together groundbreaking artists from a range of eras and genres."

As always, organizers are also focused on providing Bonnaroo fans with the best possible festival experience. To that end, they have decided to reduce capacity by 10,000 people in 2006, capping off ticket sales at
80,000 — the same size as the 2003 event. This number will make for a more comfortable environment, reinforcing the promoters’ commitment to making Bonnaroo the most enjoyable festival of its kind.

In addition to its adventurous music programming, Bonnaroo’s arts and entertainment options set it apart from traditional rock festivals. The festival’s non-music activities have included a 24-hour cinema, a comedy tent, an arcade, an onsite beer festival, a Mardi Gras parade, an Internet café, a digital music lounge, wireless hot spots, a silent disco, masquerade ball, restaurants and much more. Bonnaroo continues to make a strong impact on the American music scene. The event recently received its fourth consecutive nomination for Pollstar’s festival of the year award. According to the New York Times, "Bonnaroo has revolutionized the modern rock festival," and Rolling Stone called it "one of the 50 moments to change the history of rock and roll."

The event has been a career springboard for such popular artists as Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, Los Lonely Boys, Robert Randolph, Ray LaMontagne, Matisyahu, and many others.

Once again, Bonnaroo is poised to become the benchmark event of the summer festival season.

I considered myself Bonnarooed-out after going to the first three, but damn if this isn't right down the street (well, not literally) and it's got fucking Radiohead. Not to mention that I could always use another good acid trip or two.

According to what I just read, it's the band MG fronted in his movie "Outside Out." But I never saw the flick, so I have no clue...

Lineup looks great, though.

I'm considering going to this, but I have some logistical questions, mainly about camping. See, I'd much rather pay a bit more and stay in a hotel overnight than deal with camping, but the place looks like it's in the Middle of F'ing Nowhere. So is it not worth the inconvenience to stay in a hotel? Or are there some nearby? I saw something on the Bonnaroo web site about hotel packages, but there's very few details about how those work. Can some Bonnaroo veterans get me up to speed?

Smelly hippies gather in Tennessee countryside to smell, take drugs, smell, noodle dance, lose their dog, take drugs, and listen to a bunch of music. The reason for the diverse line up is, cool whit ekids like everything. Did I mention its HOT??!! and SMELLY??!!

And I know you think you know hot from Coachella, but TN in the summer willl be like nothing you have ever even thought of before.

I've never been, but several friends of mine go every year and definitely stay offsite in hotel rooms.

Sometimes, its best to not mix with the rubbish.

Esp if you knew this guy. D, you ever been camping before? Like, ever? Not too many green patches 'round 8 Mile from what I recall.

it's hardly a 'hippie festival' anymore.

there's more way more 'non-jamband' bands on the line up so far than anything.

i went the first year....in 2002.

we got a hotel package. but also set up a campsite. we used both. (if you get a hotel package.....i'd recommend doing this as well. gives you a 'home base' to hang out at during the day.)

there are hotels nearby. but they certainly aren't close. i think our hotel was a 20-30 minute drive to the site. wasn't really a big deal though.

this festival is huge. there are 4 stages going at one time. (so, really. you're not going to get to see 'most' of the stuff playing unless you just catch bits and pieces of each set and are constantly on the move.)

they did sell beer there. so, i'm not sure what the 'sale of alcoholic beverages' message is about unless they're trying to curb the 'lotrats' from making a buck in the lot.

and...as for the heat in tennessee. i HATE heat. but i didn't find it really that miserable. yes. it was damn hot. but it was bearable. just don't forget your sunscreen and keep yourself hydrated.

pack for EVERY kind of imaginable weather. the year i went....it was super dry. rained a bit on sunday. then cooled off big time and cleared up. turned kind of cold. last year, i think.....rained the whole time and was a big mud pit. some of the walkways were even kind of impassable.

I went when Wilco and Bob Dylan played. Have to say I had fun, and I hate hippies. It was kind of one of those college last minute fuck it road trips. But it was ridiculously hot and smelly. We swam in some house's swimming pool that was for sale to keep clean. If I ever go back, I'll stay in a hotel.

my buddy who went last year said to go for VIP camping. it's pricey, but you are right there at the main stage area, have special showers and crappers, and i think he said free beer some of the time.

but yeah, bonnaroo is turning less and less jamband hippiefest, which is cool. apparantly these are the big fests for dem hippies now:

ain't no music festival without the beer!!!!!

fuck camping. i'll stay in a hotel IF i end up going. i have to try to convince some people to go.... and i don't think any of my friends would be down to go to TN just for radiohead. i'm just crazy.

and regarding all that hippie shit, sounds like bonnaroo is burningman for rockers.

that's about right.

so, i wouldn't worry about there not being any beer.
i'm positive it'll be sold on site.
and i'm sure you can bring in coolers of your own.

like i said, they just need to make a statement to cover their asses in case people are trying to sell it in the campgrounds. (which they will.)

a bonnaroo without beer isn't going to happen.
