Anyone in the Windy City know about a club called Martyr's on Lincoln? We're playing there in Feb. and I was wanting to get the lowdown. If it's super-horrible, just smile and say, "Oh, it's nice." Thanks.

we've played there once, and was a lot better than what I had expected. the layout of the room is weird though, much more wide than it is long. huge stage, though.

I love playing there, great sound, great food, they treat you right and they get good music. The owner Ray Quinn is also a bomb ass sound man and recording engineer.

The only downside is that there isn't alot of foot traffic there, so if it's a weeknight, it might be light, unless the other bands on the bill fill it up some.

The stage is wide and not terribly deep, directly in front of the stage there is no seating, so alot of times the crowd will be sitting on the sides leaving the center wide open which can be a drag.

Who are you playing with, and on what date?

I love the room, because everyone seems close to the stage.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Martyrs too. I've seen some of my favorite shows there over the years.

Phil pretty much nailed it on the head.

Doubt I'll be there.
But I will try.
And I do like the room.

it's like 7 blocks from my apartment. i've seen some really good shows there, but it's not as consistent as i wish it were. as a spectator, i'm not bothered by the wide room unless it's crowded and i'm stuck in the back corner or behind a pillar.

For me this place gets bands I'm not into. I saw Jamie Cullum there awhile back and the venue was decent, but yea, that pillar. I really don't have much to add.

Thanks, everyone. I always insist to my friends that Chicagoans are NOT assholes.

Correct. Assholes only come from NY LA and London.

And I always liked Martyr's for shows. I think I caught Ulele there quite a few times when I lived in Chicago. Good room, good energy.

Backyard Tire Fire are from some college town like Normal or Champaign or something, but they had/have a regular gig at House of Blues on the restaurant side, and they suck.

But they seem to draw some people, so that's good.

I'll try and make it out.
