Yeah, Kinks, Zombies, Nerves...that was 40 YEARS AGO. That's old-timey to alot of people. We're not talking Django Reinhart here.

I guess I missed the rock part of "old timey rock" because I tend to think of old timey as being pre-rock -- '20's, '30's and '40's blues and country.

true. I'm going to anoint you with a new nickname: "White-Out" or "The Corrector". Which ever one you choose is ok.

Not old-timey sounding, but Tom Zé's 60s-70s output still sounds like it could come from the future.

The obvious one is:
The Beatles
I mean, listen to The White Album or Abbey Road. The only reason they sound of their time is because the defined their time. Get past that, and the music and productions are still miles ahead of everybody else.

yeah, there's so much throwback stuff going on right now a lot of bands could fit this bill. i would say:

gang of four
a certain ratio
orange juice
PiL

the 80s is the future.

It's funny, I'm listening to Louis Armstrong and I see a thread title with "old timey" in it. Then I look inside and it's about stuff from the 60s.

But I see that's already been covered so I'll contribute:

The Velvet Underground - s/t

That record could have come out pretty much any time in the last 30 years. It sits outside pretty much any trend, and yet it could fit so nicely alongside a large number of them.
