God Macon sucks so hard. I grew up 1 hour SW of that shithole. I think it's like the 3rd largest city in GA if not mistaken? Bloor can I get a fact check?

Monty, do you have a link to that article? I want to send it to friends.

I think for the longest Columbus, Maco and Augusta were tied for 2nd biggest..now I think its:

The A
Columbine
Macon
Savannah
Augusta

I could be wrong, but yeah, MACON SUCKS...

This thread made me realize that Georgia is not as populated as I thought.

Augusta = Disgusta

Oh, man, hubby (then-boyfriend) used to co-op at CharBroil in Columbus. I hated going down there to see him. And of course, I always had to drive home through a monsoon that "suddenly" hit LaGrange.

My grandparents are from Columbus, or rather, retired there from Ft. Benning, so "The Columbine" as me and some others called it, os kinda like home to me. Terrible place.

I did a congressional in Augusta, and, all I have to say is, it's worse than The Coulmbine, and if you've never been to Augusta National, it is weird, cos it really is pretty much in the middle of the hood.

Impossible to get an accurate figure here based on two factors:

1. The population of "Atlanta" is actually less than 500,000 though the Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area (as Loogs pointed out) is actually more than 4 million.

2. Three of the major (sic) other population centers in Georgia have gone to a combined county/city (Athens-Clarke, Augusta-Richmond, and Columbus-Muscogee) setup to save money on combined municipal resources [for those of you not from Georgia: GA has the second most counties (162 or 168 I think] of any state in the nation; this create's an incredible burden on some of these governmental enterprises that quite honestly consist of a city and a bunch of fucking farmland and/or government housing.

The most recent raw data suggests:

1. Atlanta
2. Augusta
3. Columbus
4.Savannah
5. Athens
6. Macon
7. Sandy Springs
8. Roswell
9. Albany
10. Marietta
11. Warner Robbins

But, in compiling MSA data, Atlanta gets combined with Sandy Springs, Marrietta, Roswell and about 44 other cities (including, in some models, Athens; and Macon gets combined with Warner Robbins putting it just ahead of Savannah)

edit: fucked up and omitted C-bus

try developing a marketing strategy based on it. *throws hands up*

Macon, BTW DOES have the Georgia Music Hall of Fame

Also, when Uncle Brian was at law school down there at Mercer, he showed me:

A. The house where the Allman Brothers used to live/play (abandoned b/c of "bad vibes". SPOOKY.

B. Where Greg Allman and Cher lived during that brilliant marriage.

C. Where Duane bit it.

I spent 6 weeks in Macon years ago, and have fond memories of a lot of pretty (and accomodating) ladies. Every place has something to offer.

Don't get me wrong it's alot of people, but I was just accustomed to thinking other parts were very well populated besides Atlanta.

Well, I think that GA is now the 9th most populous state; we've been battling New Jersey for that honor for a while for what its worth.

Atlanta is now the 10th biggest market for radio and TV. Not worth much, even for advertisers.

Most of those guns come from down here, where the laws are much, much looser...so we got guns too. And a lot of mooks have made their way down to ATL area, too. But, mostly, its country.

No, it's populated for sure. I just thought it was bigger than that for some reason.

Thanks Bloor. While I would never live there, it's still got some decent folk living down there. I've been to see Widespread there twice during my "jam band period". Ate some fine BBQ there. The GA music hall o fame is decent if only to read some stories about the Allmans, Otis Redding, Lena Horne, Ray Charles, Outkast, Johnny Mercer, James Brown, and Little Richard.

Recognize people.
