I wish I could say I owned it, but a Canadian hooked me up with this.

SO FUCKING QUAL!! You really get to trace their progression from Ronnie Hawkin's back up band, to being Levo and The Hawks, to being Dylan's back up band, to being The Band.

I have had all 5 discs in my changer on shuffle for the last few days, and there's really not a bad track among them.

Oldbullee -- you heard this?
Rads?
Bloor -- if not, I'll make copies for when y'all come down.

Yeah, this is good stuff. I had Moondog Matinee a long time ago, but recently bought more of their stuff: Rock Of Ages, Stage Fright and a Best Of comp.

A talented buch of youngsters.

Anyone man can get through all of "It Makes No Difference" without clearing his throat, nervously shifting his beer, then going, "that there...hell of a song" while wiping a mysterious particle from his eye after doesn't deserve the beer.

I'd like to hear this.

The Basement Tapes has become one of my favorite albums.

i go through strange feelings about the band. i listen to them alot for awhile then don't listen for a year or so. i am in my down period on the band - i like them a lot - but they have quite a few clunkers.

Me too. I think I need to get myself a Mardi Gras present.

Is "Get Up Jake" on this set? My band covers it.

As I've said... song is 90% responsible for me moving back up here and getting married. Powerful stuff. One big, good chorus.

Does this mean we can vote for The Band in next year's Schmoo Poll?

Make's No Difference is a great track, but I get weepy every time I hear Stagefright. Not sure why, but I do.

It is a quality set of songs; I'll do some uploading of all five discs if there's some interest.

Tis true. Especially the version on The Last Waltz. I've cried myself to sleep on my huge pillah a couple of times on that one

i'm not a big fan, but i read a quote about them that made me laugh.

i was reading an old inteveriew with Eric Clapton and they asked him for a humbling moment and it was right after Cream had broken up and he asked if he could stop by their studio (big pink?) and jam. And one of the guys in The Band simply said, "We don't Jam."

Eric said he felt like the biggest ass, with his dumb poofy hippie shirts and these guys were lumberjacks that didn't jam.

that's awesome.

I'm on it, I'll get going on it today and finish it up over the weekend. I'll check back on this thread and email those who want it.

I think I know now what Josh is getting for Father's Day.

He's a huge, huge fan of theirs. Big influence on him musically. He'd frigging love this.

This is definitely on my wishlist - I had Basement Tapes at the very top of my listmania. For me the best work by the Band is kinda like the best work of Dylan, ie: I can't listen to it in random play because it's just so timeless and profound that it kills everything else you put it up against.

They sure fell fast and hard, though. One of the best examples out there of the debillitating effects of drug abuse.

The one great revelation I had while listening to it is: For all the Dylan changed music hoopla, all he really did is up the JAIL quotient for his stream of consciousness acid rants...and that makes it EVEN BETTER.

There is a "Stones that I Throw" Demo on here that will be included on some future mixes, fits in well with that "All Down the Line" demo you told me about, and the version of "Tumblin Dice" on that new rarities disc.
