Yesterday I saw Calla and Say Hi to Your Mom. Alone. I did it! And I'm alive to tell about it.

Say Hi to Your Mom was very enjoyable and Calla was wow. About an hour and a half set, no encore, no banter, all goodness.

Of course (because I am a magnet for this sort of thing) easily the two most annoying guys in the room sat next to me. They hushed people during the Say Hi to Your Mom set and talked during Calla. And the one that looked like an overgrown Hanson brother who just couldn't give up his past fame played the hardest air drums I have ever been witness to. Honestly, if I had put sticks in his hands and a set in from of him he would have been playing with the same vigor the actual band member was. It was annoying as hell and several times I thought he was going to whack me in the head or stomp on my foot.

Overall, though, yay music.

I've never had that much of a problem going to shows by myself, but I'm overcoming a similar fear:

Going to the movies by myself...

Therefore, as apples-and-oranges-ish as it might be, I know what you're going through, and salute you...

I used to go to shows alone in Boston a lot. But I kind of stopped going to as many shows, and therefore the shows I go to I usually would go with people.
I did go see Crooked Fingers alone in November.

same here. no qualms about going to shows by myself... but i fear the idea of going to a movie by myself. hence, why i never watch movies anymore.

I missed Calla here the other night though.

see, I think it's easier to go to a show by yourself than a movie...you pretty much know what time the movie is gonna start, so you show about the time the movie starts and then when it's over, you're out

bands aren't that punctual...so you end up standing around, playing with you phone or whatever til the show starts...there's also the downtime in between bands

I prefer going to movies alone. My friends like to talk during movies and it drives me goddamn insane.

yeah that's the part that sucks. there's only so many times you can look at the merch table.
