So this movie is being released and the lead character is gay. Of course people are getting upset because the guy plays an missionary. My favorite line in the article:

two things I'm suprised at:

1. For the film, they didn't keep the title of the novel Through The Gates Of Splendor which has sold millions of copies over the years and is considered one of the ultimate "Christian" adventure books among fundamentalists.

2. That Focus On The Family reacted relatively reasonably. Dobson and company haven't been very reasonable in about a decade.

I call bullshit on that one. It's an "important" film because of it's subject matter, not because of it's artistic content. Replace one of the characters with a woman it's a long, boring, and trite love story of someone wanting someone they can't have which we've seen a million times. Granted, Heath Ledger is good in the film but it wouldn't be on the radar if it wasn't breaking stereotypes with gay cowboys. This is a perfect example of group think about a message rather than the quality of a film.
